"Its a good program overall, it does the job."
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
effective when using resources, really not "in your face with its scans.
Cons
Nagware - huge con with this software every time you reboot you get a really nice welcome advertisement.
-
"very good so far!"

It detects and kills most of the potential harmful programs in my computer.
Cons
It has to be manually updated in the internet
Summary

"Good anti-virus protection; a bit of a CPU hog"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Good protection
Cons
Sometimes (like after booting) the anti-virus goes on a long disk scan which keeps the PC very busy for many minutes.
-
"thanks Avira, you're my guardian angel!"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Easy & simple!
Cons
Hopefully it will keep up this way!

"Alternative method for getting rid of the notifier"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Aside from its annoying nag screen, it is a quite easygoing antivirus program when it comes to getting along with other antivirus programs in the same system. Thus, I can also run Comodo Internet Security Premium along with the Comodo Antivirus module.
I have disabled Avnotify.exe using the Defence options of Comodo.Cons
Nag screen and persistent reboot prompt are really disturbing. The reboot is not required at all for the actual virus protection but only for their nag screen to run (thus, it is misleading).
Summary
The nag screen and reboot prompt drive the user away!
The scuffle continues. Now I have blocked avrestart.exe and the restart nag that kept appearing to punish me for disabling the avnotify nag is successively disabled!
If it is having no more free version users in the long term, they will probably achieve this. Permanent free version users may not be converted into paid users, however their wide use of the software would help to the image and attract other (also paid) users. I hope that Avira realizes this soon and changes their new odd policy, leaving (forever) free users alone!

"I have not thoroughly tested this"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Currently use Avast 7. This was retained as a possible replacement should I run into problems with Avast.
Cons
Nothing to report yet
Summary
When I have tested I'll post a more in-depth review

"No longer my preferred free anti-virus program"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
1. Faultless detection of viruses and malware
2. Easy setup and upgrade process
3. Typically among the highest scores in independent lab tests
4. Free!Cons
In prior versions, the nag screen promoting an upgrade to the paid version would appear once a day at approximately 7 am in the morning. I could deal with a once a day popup. But with the version 12, a new smaller popup nag screen appears frequently - I'm guessing every 2 hours. It has gotten to the point where it is now interfering with my workflow on the computer. As a result, I'm going to take a long hard look at other free antivirus alternatives.
Summary
Sorry, Avira, but I'm moving on. There is no better way to drive away a customer than by bombarding constantly with a nag screen.

"Strong Antivirus"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Easy install, works well, easy to configure.
Cons
Used to only nag you about buying full version when it updated. Now it nags you every time you reboot or starup in addition to when it updates. Still no way to get it to permanently ignore items you know are fine.
Summary
Annoying, I'll probably find something else.
-
"Easy to use"
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Good cleaning
Cons
takes some time
-
"Best free AV (for me)."
Version: Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.1125
Pros
Everything (anti-virus/spyware/rootkit/unknown-vira, browser protection).
Highly customizeable protection settings.
Doesn't slow down my system.Cons
Windows security center detects it as being off until the update process begins even if the realtime is on.
When it finds something, it recommends to run a boottime scan using Avira rescue system which has to be downloaded seperately (it should already be in the av).Summary
This is the av that goes: "THIS IS SPARTA!!!"
