    "High detection rate."

    October 10, 2012  |   By sampathkaru7

Version: Avira Free Antivirus 2013 13.0.0.2693

    Pros

Very High detection rate compared to other antivirus engines.
    Simple user interface.
    very low resource usage.

    Cons

    Less features
Web guard is not good. ( ask tool bar is annoying , web site ranking is not available for google chrome )
user interface is not very attractive although it is very simple.

    Summary

don't use only avira. It has a good antivirus engine (probably the best) but not good at blocking web threats.
combine it with comodo firewall and bitdefender traffic light.
    (both are free)

"Better but still not good enough"

    October 6, 2012  |   By jaytee28

Version: Avira Free Antivirus 2013 13.0.0.2693

    Pros

Fast scans, and I am sure that it finds bad stuff

    Cons

Massive effect on boot time and still asks you to uninstall Malwarebytes

    Summary

As someone who was very happy with Avira for a long time, I changed to Avast last year after Avira forced the toolbar onto users. Seeing the new review I thought I'd give Avira another chance.

I am sure it does the job protection wise, but why does it still ask you to uninstall Malwarebytes (which I'd trust over any of these)?

Also Avira quadrupled the boot time of my PC. Not good enough. Avast isn't perfect but it's better than this.

"The best free anti-virus i know"

    October 3, 2012  |   By EccentricLittleGuy

Version: Avira Free Antivirus 2013 13.0.0.2693

    Pros

    Great detection and protection.
Light and not heavy on resources.

    Cons

Don't like the browse toolbar with ask auto updater etc.
I use SpywareBlaster, CCleaner and adblock plus with firefox for keeping my privacy and internet safe and clean.

    Summary

Tested a lot of paid and free anti-virus programs and Avira really improved in my opinion.
The last time i used Avira was 1 year ago and he slowed my system down.
But do not have that problem anymore and detection rate (less false-positives for example) has really been improved with Avira.
The scanning still takes a long time, but i trust slow scans because slow is accurate in my experience.

No more MSE and AVAST problems/issues for me, i'm done with them and i'll keep using Avira for a very long time.
