    "incompatible with fan speed/temp. monitoring software"

    seems to work (no infections since owned = 2 weeks)

    Cons

    My Avast use started with several false positive alerts. One was a file shield alert and automatic sandboxing of my motherboard's temp. and fan speed monitoring file, Abit uGuru. After sandboxing, the file was auto-modified and no longer exists. This is a significant loss, as my northbridge fan often needs attention. A Google search showed that this has happened to another user and that Avast also is incompatible with the fan speed monitoring freeware "SpeedFan" (see the CNET user reviews on SpeedFan).

    The Iyogi tech. support is not worth much. I had to listen to their sales pitch about purchasing additional unrelated services from them before they would admit they could not fix my problem.

    Summary

    A significant incompatibility problem and useless tech. support makes free a relative term. There are other free, well rated internet security software programs available.
