"Truly the best!"
Version: Avast Internet Security 7.0.1426
Pros
No Hassle Installation, Very Secure, Tons of Features, Great Price, Easy to Use Interface, Very Frequent Definition List Updates, Unobtrusive.
Cons
The Spam Filter tends to be a bit too aggressive, even on it's lowest settings. The Spam Filter also sometimes keeps telling you mail from a certain Domain is spam, even after you have told it that it isn't. During the last 30 Days of the license period, you get this highly annoying screen that pops up several times a day, telling you to renew the license, and there is no way to disable it.
Summary
All in all, this is the best "Bang for your Buck" all around Internet and Anti-Virus software I have ever used. Less expensive than most of it's competitors and packed with features. It has an easy to use interface and is updated very often. The only two peeves I have about it are that the Spam filter will keep telling you email is spam, even if it isn't and you have put the domain on your whitelist. I have not found a solution to this issue other than to turn this feature off and let Outlook handle any spam detection. It also starts popping up this screen at random intervals and with annoying frequency, telling you to renew your subscription. I personally find this to be a big negative. More than once it has popped up while I was working on something in my 3D modeling software and made a mess out of what I was doing. The only solution I was able to come up with is to renew your subscription before the 30 day end period. I think once a week or so would be more reasonable, and preferably while the machine was idle. I do not like to have a product sales ad stuffed in my face when I am doing rather complex bits of modeling.
Given those two peeves, I would still recommend the software based on it's abilities and characteristics. It has caught more than one bug lurking on some websites and in some downloaded shareware packages. So if you can deal with using your mail program's anti-spam features, and can deal with renewing your subscription more than 30 days before it expires, then this is definitely the best package out there.
