Version: Avast Home Edition 4.6
"Excellent!"
Pros: The best! I have been using it for months, though mine is Pro. This antivirus is great! They give it to you for free, and it does all the stuff that the big time a/v's do. It's also skinnable, which is not common in a/v's. It is very effective too. I used to have Norton A/V last year, and it didn't detect any virus. Then I was suspicious. I downloaded this and it found one. All my defs are the latest. I was so satisfied with it that I just HAD TO upgrade. This is the best! Get it now! Or get the Pro version!
Cons: It doesn't have the script blocking option unlike in the Pro. But I don't know since the last time I used Home Edition was v4.5 and I'm using Pro v4.6 now.

I only bother to write good reviews for programs that really deserve it...Okay so the Screaming siren may irritate some but if you're sitting in the next room watching TV waiting for the scan to be over and done with that Siren is very helpful. It's a slow scan but and damn good one. Updates are unnoticeable and seamless (apart from the info pop-up that proves it's doing it's job)
My only niggle is with the "Program Update" when the program updates problems arrise it's much safer and better for your PC to remove the software and install the new version online as the old versions tend to leave unneeded files and i've had AOL conflicts and WinXPsp2 Firewall issues (Inc. Blue screens) becasue of it...so start a fresh when the infrequent program updates happen (make sure you update your deffinitions still though!)

The scan takes awhile but is worth it. The resident protection keeps the computer safe. This product detects not only virus problems but even some spyware. I give it five plus stars and both thumbs up!

It does a much more 30% more through scan then the leading norton. And yes it works with Firefox. Avast may give you a small trouble here and there but it doesn't destroy your computer. By small trouble I mean a pretty slow scan [but like I said it does a more through scan] and the skins will slow your computer by about 4% [I never added skins and disabled them] This is perfect if you want perfect protection. OH BTW! Even if a new worm or virus or whatever it will detect it. It may not remove it but at least it informs you! Comeon norton doesn't even do that all the time!

While the product may be good the genius user obviously doesn't know much about antivirus companys. Norton antivirus happens to be one of the best and a leader in the industry. His opinion of the Norton Antivirus company tells me he is still wet behind the ears and I hope his review isn't a reflection on the product. I haven't tried the product yet but time will tell after I download it. With its standings on the poll I expect it will stand the test rather well.

I have been using avast! for almost 2 years now, and all it does was protect my computer. There might be some stuff in your PC that screwed it, but not avast!.

I read your review and tried it and it screwed up my computer bad. An enormous amount of my time has been wasted, time I will never be able to recover. Think before you recommend such harmful software.

Will this work on FIREFOX? I happen to absolutely LOVE my Firefox Browser, and don't want to go back to IE! I do, however, want to download and start using ICQ. Does anyone know if the FOX is compatable with ICQ?

Every freakin' time I download the newest version, it WIPES OUT all my ISP e-mail, with the mail client being Nutscape, AND my Nutscape Address book!
And it hounds you to death until you DO download the newest version.
Aside from that it works fine.
My current registration key for the newest verison, which I'm supposed to register, is in one of the lost e-mails I received yesterday when I downloaded the latest version.
WHAT are they thinking?
