    "Absolutely the best!"

    September 23, 2008  |   By DeathWyrm

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

Very few false positives, no added viruses or spyware, works well on Vista, fast clean lean and mean.

    Cons

    Nothing! this software truly rocks!

    Summary

I have tried most of the antivirus products out there and this is the one I will stay with. I will admit I was a little concerned about the safety of this product when I discovered it was a free product from Eastern Europe. You hear horror stories about some software from that area that are designed to steal personal info. I tried it very cautiously at first and tested it with everything I could find but it always came up clean. I've been very satisfied with its quality and value for several years now, I would recommend it highly!

"This is an excellent and effective anti-virus program."

    September 23, 2008  |

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

I've used this product in the past without complaint and only recently reinstalled it. During its initial scan,it found a virus that Zone Alarm Security Suite had not detected or dealt with.

    Cons

This is an excellent product that I would highly recommend to others and if there are any "cons," I haven't found them after several years.

    Summary

As noted above, Avast seamlessly does program and definition updates. I abandoned Avast last year in favor on Zone Alarm Security Suite but have just abandoned ZASS in favor of Avast after the last two program updates of ZASS totally screwed up my computer and caused me countless hours of grief trying to get it straightened out. Now I'm running Avast and Zone Alarm free which provide me with antivirus and firewall protection without all the bloated, resource hogging "bells and whistles" of ZASS. ZASS is just another example of a good product being perverted by marketing of a "new and improved" version every few months.

"Greatest thing I ever did was downloading Avast!"

    September 23, 2008  |   By reeder21

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

I've tried them all, and I still kept getting pop-up ads. Avast is the only one that actually cured my pop-up problems. It did a huge start-up cleanser and wiped out all the viruses and now I can get on the internet and not have 12 million pop-ups!

    Cons

NONE!! This is the only one that works!!!!!!

    Summary

I was getting frustrated that I thought there was nothing I could do but buy another computer but I gave it one last shot and downloaded this and it solved all my computer problems 8 thumbs up to the makers of Avast!! It may take a long time when it does it start-up cleanser but it works!!!!

"I received a virus from Avast Home Edition"

    September 23, 2008  |   By lamborghinivx2

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

I had to reinstall my windows software

    Cons

I don't like it as it caused problems with my computer

    Summary

The problem with the program is you say it is free but it is not so you go ahead and install the program and pay for it and then its to late because you get your money and because you find out the program may not work with vista and then I'm out of pocket because I had to uninstall the program from my computer and out of pocket for the price that I paid for it. YOU WIN I LOOSE!!!!!! I'M THE ONE OUT OF POCKET Also you wont put this review for others to see.

    "Amazing product"

    September 22, 2008  |   By frenchie34

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

Amazing product, gives U full confidence in mail exchanges and web surfing. If U don't know all about viruses, Avast does. And so easy to use ! Keep on smiling and enjoy internet. Thank U Avast !

    Cons

Maybe I don't really know how to program a weekly thorough survey of my computer, but this is the only thing I'd like to see done.

    "not a free program"

    September 22, 2008  |   By orki1960a

    Version: Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80826

    Pros

skin looks cool and the alerts talk on my vista computer. The spinning blue ball with the whit a on it is cute

    Cons

a little complicated to figure out, one needs to read the pop up menu and "read more" for each section. The program is only free for 60 days without a product key. I haven't registered it yet to see how complicated that procedure might be.

    Summary

I have used AVG, Aviria and now Avast. Aviria found more than AVG but Avast hasn't found anything more than Aviria at this time. Reading other posts, I am feeling it might be best to have all three and run each or use one for a month ot two, swap for another for a month or two and repeat the swap and use periods.
