"free alternative to Norton"
Version: Avast Home Edition 4.6
Pros
When I tried to update my definitions at Norton I found that my 2002 version of NAV needed to be updated at a cost. Avast is free to home users, has a tidy interface, and worked flawlessly when it intercepted a virus two days after installation. Hard to beat that.

"FAR better than Norton."
Version: Avast Home Edition 4.6
Pros
I recommend this FREE edition to anyone who uses a computer at home. Avast consistently impresses with its trojan detection - something Norton has consistently disappointed with. There is NO reason not to switch. Great job Avast!
Cons
Interface has always been a little clumsy but with the newer skins, they're almost there...

"Great!"
Version: Avast Home Edition 4.6
Pros
Detects a lot of major viruses. The best part is the incremental updates. Fast and free!
Cons
Huge memory footprint, my 128MB machine slows down on this one.

"Adaware!"
Version: Avast Home Edition 4.6
Pros
Skins ?
Cons
It will work only for 30 days, from that on, "no virus were found". How great? so you think your computer is safe... But no, if some virus could not be removed, then Avast will find, and tell you "Buy the full version"!
It uses too mutch of your RAM memory.
