Version: Avast Home Edition - Free Antivirus 4.8.1356
"Excellent product for tight budget"
Pros: I enjoy the instantaneous, real-time protection and automatic updates to both virus signatures and program updates. Covers all vulnerable avenues of attack from removable memories, P2P and IM networks, Web sites and Email.
Cons: Free license is only good for one year. User must re-register each year to receive a new key.
Summary: Out performed Norton and McAfee in a side by side test on an infected PC. Plus for really nasty Trojan horse viruses, anyone can go to the avast web site and allow them to remove the infection... which works great when your machine keeps replicating the virus with every reboot. And all this protection for FREE! I've used this one anti-virus program with total satisfaction since 1999 and have no reason to change to any other program as this one does everything I need it to do and it is simple to use!
