  Once downloaded complete lock up

  Summary

  Download was fast, started scan on it's own and locked up my entire computer. After an hour and all attempts recommended by Microsoft to unlock were unsuccessful, I had to hold power button to shut my computer off. Restarted normally, tried to uninstall but it immediately locked up again after opening Avast. Hard shut down again holding power button. Rebooted in safe mode and uninstalled Avast. Restarted computer in normal mode and all is well again. I should have read the User reviews and not relied solely on CNet's review. Oh well, you live and learn. Think I'll stick with AVG for now.

  This could have happened for a couple reasons. First did you remove any other antivirus programs you already had installed? Sometimes anti-virus programs fight with each other which may have frozen your computer. Secondly it is highly likely you have a serious virus. I hope for the sake of your sanity and computer whatever anti virus you are using now has found it and removed it! Avast is the best anti virus I have ever used and believe me I have used just about everything out there. Including AVG and it compares nothing to AVAST so don't give up on it just yet
