Pros
I have used this program to recover friends computers that have been riddled with viruses despite them having other name brand programs on them. Slowly stopped using anything else.
Cons
seems to have a high horsepower demand but I'll put up with that for its effectiveness.
Summary
Best of the name brands. I have free subscriptions to others but don't use them. Avast is the one i use to keep computers clean.

"A Rather Efficient Antivirus"

Pretty similar feel as before; to me its the same as before, but they added their cloud stuff. People have claimed blue screens and stuff, but I use version 7 on my windows XP netbook and a windows 7 laptop - both are fine and work as normal (except for being very slightly slower... ). Avast works fantastic as a "front-line," or rather prevention protection against viruses / stuff (especially its web shield), but I would have to agree with claims that its removal/repair is weak (but I leave that work up to Malwarebytes, elaborated on in cons). But my logic is that malware is extremely tough to get rid of, so I especially like how avast does a rather good job of preventing them from even getting onto my computer.
Cons
Compared to previous versions, it does seem to have slowed my computer a little bit. Not sure of how useful the cloud features truly are, but I even turned them off to avoid slowing my computer in any way. Their file rep service I judged not so useful...I think I know the risks of certain files, what matters to me is if avast can stop it if it's some malware. I am also aware of claims that it doesn't detect things terribly well, but I am one of those who leaves that type of "work" up to Malwarebytes (since it's manually run and won't conflict with avast too if I'm not mistaken?).
Summary
Like a lot of people, I compare avast mainly with AVG, both of which I have used (but not the recent avg). As I stated, I feel avast has great prevention of malware, but AVG I think has better annihilation of malware (but not as great prevention) ~ Just an opinion. Because of this, I couple my protection with Avast and Malwarebytes - which has arguably the best detection. Avast does now feel like it takes up more of my computer resources, but with some shield settings tweaked (ie. I made P2P, IM Shields less thorough because I don't need them.) it feels the same as before. So it's not that big of a con. If anything, it lets me know that they are being more thorough with keeping my computer safe, which is an acceptable trade off with performance. Hope this rather long review helps!

The anti malware protection has been extremely useful. Unlike the norton antivirus I also have installed, it picks up and removes threats to my computer. It detects threats and aborts them instantly before damage can be done to my computer; it also saved my computer after it was infected with a virus. I have the free download version and it rocks. When my norton subscription runs out, I will go strictly with avast and have considered paying for an upgraded version.
Cons
I have had no issues with avast. I downloaded it after my antivirus failed to detect a threat and rendered my computer useless. It cleaned/saved my files and computer and I have had no issues since.
Summary
Avast is very effective and thorough. It not only detects threats effectively, it saved my computer after it was infected with a virus. I'm definitely a fan, have used it for 4 years now and strongly suggest downloading it.

Beside using avast for 3 year and never having a virus. The layout is perfect, Great for any user from novice to Expert. Real time shield's are a plus and very useful. One super feature is the auto-sandbox which you can run any application your unsure of or could have a virus, so avast open the program in the sandbox to determine whether or not it is safe while remaining completely protected. Another great feature is silent/gaming mode which avast wont pop up or notify you about anything going on while playing gaming, watching movies ect.

Switch from AVG to Antivira then Avast(which I have been using for 3 years now) which I can honestly say I would never go back to them other ones again. Avast is simply brilliant, easy to understand, just a all around great anti-virus program. When you need anti-virus protection think Avast.
