Doesn't slow down the system, or take control of Windows functions. I have several computers running in my network, all have Avast FREE on them, updated for several years, NO, I repeat, NOT ONE virus problem. All other antivirus programs seem to leave 'gaps' for them to get in.

I work on PC's. I have seen and used many antivirus programs. Avast is by far the best. Auto update, free, effective, solid. What more can you ask for FREE!

As far as I can tell, it's quick and thorough without being too aggressive. Type of scan is optional: quick or complete. I've used it for about a year and have never had any problems with it.
Cons
None. I've been waiting for something to go wrong but nothing has.

This AV software is ideal for folks who want protection, but don't want to have to fuss with their antivirus software. It is a pretty autonomous set of protections that takes care of itself, for the most part. The only updating the user has to do is a full package update, and that's been completely painless in my experience. I recommend this to everyone who asks, and given my tendency to be asked, this software gets a great deal of use.
