Pros
NONE. It failed.
Cons
Failed to protect my Windows 7 x64 system from infections!
Succeeded in annoying me with popup nags every single day.
Apparently it's not really "free" (demands registration).Summary

"Netshield most useful part"
Version: Avast Free Antivirus 7.0.1426
Pros
I like everything. Very customizable
Cons
1 CON which is the NetShield doesnt have a logging capacity like all the others. I would have loved to be able to see the individual blocks and what port and information they were trying to inject.
Summary
Definitely a get it.
Yes the registration for the free license was very plain. Hard to miss.

"I'm not altogether happy with this"
Version: Avast Free Antivirus 7.0.1426
Pros
seems to do the job. I haven't had a serious problem.
Cons
This definitely slows your laptop down. My laptop feels slower and everything takes longer. I don't really get why this is so popular. In my humble opinion having ran AVG, Avira, Avast and Kapersky since 2007, Avast is the slowest and most annoying. It doesn't seem to gel with other programs either. I am uninstalling and returning to Avira which really is an excellent bit of software and I wish I hadnt changed over to this now.
Summary
not the best. not as good as avira. Slows things down a bit too much for my liking. I think more people will agree with me too if they have ever run avira. so in smmary, a bit annoying.

"Least impact on my system"
Version: Avast Free Antivirus 7.0.1426
Pros
Installs and runs smoothly.
Clean GUI.
Does not load my cpu or slow down my system. I was a big fan of another highly recommended AV sw. However, the latest update of that sw ground my laptop to a halt, almost, for some reason. I uninstalled it and put on Avast! and my system is quicker than it originally was.Cons
Don't know of any, so far.
Summary
If your AV sw is slowing down your system, replace it with Avast!
The problem I got with my previous AV sw was that the latest update caused a "NT Kernel and System" service to run my cpu constantly at around 50-55%. That is now completely gone with the Avast install and my laptop is even faster than before I had that problem. So, unless something happens, Avast will do it for me.

"I Miss Version 4.8"
Version: Avast Free Antivirus 7.0.1426
Pros
-Excellent protection/detection
-Beautiful interface
-Low RAM & CPU usageCons
The configuration settings (expert settings) are a NIGHTMARE.
Summary
In order to get maximum protection, you'd need to fiddle with all the settings. And believe me, once I opened these settings up, I REALLY missed v4.8. I've honestly never seen so many frustating settings in my life. I personally didn't even bother to try and set them all. I just unistalled.
However, I'd recommend avast! to anyone who is at least an intermediate user... One who enjoys fooling with a massive amount of settings. It is a truly great A.V. when it fully configured.
For those who want something simple or are amateurs, stay FAR away from this program. I'm considered close to an "expert" when it comes to using computers (and fixing them), and I'm also a simple guy who enjoys simple things. Let me tell you, this program is far from simple.
