"An excellent antivirus program which both blocks threat"

    July 4, 2015  |   By enjay66

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

It is free and appears to be very effective at what it does

    Cons

It can be intrusive such as telling you when some programs need to be updated. Not really a problem though it could be an optional feature. Nags about upgrades and not totally up to date on new viruses

    Summary

A first class antivirus program that blocks perceived threats but allows you to decide what to do about them. It is certainly my favourite antivirus program.

"You can't beat it for protection!!! Used it for years!!"

    July 3, 2015  |   By michaelhtritter

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

Amazing protection, as good as a paid utility, but free. One the best features is the 'Run Time Boot Scan', which can catch a virus that protects itself from being cleaned away by other types of protection. If something does happen to slip through, which is rare because Avast catches most everything, a Boot Time Scan can eliminate even the most deep-seated and nasty of viruses.

They update their virus definitions constantly and automatically.

It got a host of features that I don't even need to worry about. Super powerful.

    Cons

I honestly cannot think of a one.

    Summary

I've used it for years and years. I have in on every home computer, and on all our mobile devices. I cannot understand why someone wouldn't use it. I just got a pop-up from them asking me to rate them here, so I ran over to gush. It is the least I could do in exchange for them protecting my electronic life 24/7/365 for free.

"Good Free AV, But the Nagging is a Pain"

    July 3, 2015  |   By riceboy1701e

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

    Catches most threats
    Easy to update
    Easy interface
    Easy to use

    Cons

CONSTANT nagging to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade
CONSTANT nagging aytime you use a feature to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade...
CONSTANT popups reminding you to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade............

Did I mention the nagging you to upgrade? ;-)

Agree with a poster above: adult sites are fine until Avast reminds you that you can be monitored (and you get the subsequent popup nagware that reminds you to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade to prevent monitoring).

    Summary

A good AV program that is free, but at a cost. If you can somehow ignore the nearly endless nag-mes to upgrade, it is a wonderful AV option to the grief that AVG caused with their spam/malware-infused 2014 version. I took AVG off all of my machines because of AVG's insistance to use malware that wanted to hijack my browser. Avast seems like a reasonable alternative...unless the nagware gets too obtrusive.

    PLEASE Avast...stop the nagware!

    "Years of rock solid protection"

    July 3, 2015  |   By nitinsawhney100

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

I have been using Avast since 2005 and it has never let me down. It protects system from all sorts of threats and even a website trying to sneak in a trojan is blocked by it. It provides a rock solid protection at no cost.

    Cons

Certain features like firewall are not available in the free version.

    Summary

Must have antivirus if you have a limited budget and looking for a great rock solid virus protection.

"Top AV I've used for years but starting to get bloated"

    July 3, 2015  |

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

Free (which is always a plus) and very effective. It's everything most casual PC users will ever need in antivirus software.

    Cons

Starting to feel just a little bloated and intrusive compared to years gone by and I could do without the ads that pop up now and again (it was one that brought me here!) but that is a very minor irritation.

    Summary

Superb value and very trustworthy. I've used this antivirus for about 12 years now and it has never let me down. The free version is still very good. I have tried the pay version on a special offer and once it ran out I just went back to the free version as it is all I need. Couple it with Adaware and Spybot and you're pretty much bullet proof...

    Pros

    Best free antivirus.
    Good all round Protection.

    Cons

Removed some features from free version.
It removes files if they are infected instead of only infected part.

"Fast, light and comprehensive anti virus software"

    July 1, 2015  |   By monkeysavage

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

    - Decent functionality in the free version, tonnes of features in the paid for versions.
    - Not bloated; runs quickly with low CPU use in the background (unlike McAfee which grinds everything to a halt)
    - Easy to use and intuitive interface, with great 'Fix This' features, saves you having to fiddle about changing obscure settings in Windows.

    Cons

    - Prompt to reboot after a scan pops up whilst I am gaming even though silent/gaming mode is on. Only happens infrequently so not a major problem.

    "Very good free antivirus"

    July 1, 2015  |   By gigel.giga.3

Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2015 2015.10.2.2218

    Pros

I've been using it for some years now, also on my phone, and havn't got any viruses since then. Before Avast I tried multiple antivirus software on my PC and none of them worked as well as Avast. I really recommand it! Also the Battery Saver and the Anti-Theft for mobile phone are very nice.

    Cons

Nothing, for me it's just perfect.

    Summary

I recommand it to anyone 10/10.
