"Love the product, but hate the lack of release notes"

    August 23, 2014  |   By hershey444

    Version: Autoruns 12.02

    Pros

Only sane way to disable/enable multitude of apps

    Cons

can't think of any general cons. Maybe more info on various programs.

But this review is specific to the current potential update: "What's new in this version: Version 12.02 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes."

That is useless information!!!! I make it a practice to not update anything, unless I have a good reason to. More often than not, bugs or unwelcome design changes creep in, often with regressive behavior. If you want to share what was changed, updates will be considered.

    Summary

Fine program. Should be builtin to Windows somehow. But I will not consider an update unless I can read release notes. See Cons.

"Works great and is free !"

    April 7, 2013  |   By pawpaw70

    Version: Autoruns 11.5

    Pros

I have used this product for several years and find it to be convienient and easy to use. With one click, you can see what exactly is running at startup.

    Cons

The only con is that once you see what all is in operation, I am a litle cautious as to what Ishould change and what to leave alone ! Some programs , I could probably eliminate from startup and use shortcuts later, if needed, but I think maybe some of these little bits, might be used by my primary startup programs. Some information might be added to the program to help users decide what to limit on startup.

    Summary

Except for the comments in the box above, I would recommend this program to anyone. It is easy to use and I have found no software glitches to mess up the computer, it is good and free !

"A fantastic program for somewhat advanced users."

    March 29, 2013  |   By LarryLamp1

    Version: Autoruns 11.5

    Pros

Gives you a complete look at everything that autoruns on your machine. If you haven't used Autoruns or a similar program before, you'll be amazed at how many things run without your knowledge.

    Cons

A fuller explanation of what each file is would be nice, but this information is available at other places online.

    Summary

This is a great program if you are a somewhat advanced user. Learning this program will help you to become that "somewhat advanced user"! Don't be afraid to take a look. Just set a System Restore Point before you begin. If things get out of hand, restore to the System Restore Point you created. (And if you are uncomfortable with System Restore, well, you're not quite ready for this program yet. But you can get there!)

"Great utility for folks with knowledge and experience."

    March 17, 2013  |   By Dave4506

    Version: Autoruns 11.42

    Pros

Tremendously useful and straightforward utility that simply shows everything that is "running" on the computer.
Even gives right-click shortcut to help figure out what each process is.

It simply gives you access to turn on or off each process.

    Cons

Not for novices or folks with no confidence or bravery. Does not "automatically fix" everything, or anything for that matter.

It simply gives you access to turn on or off each process.

    Summary

Phenomenal utility if you know how, or are willing to learn how, to use it.
It shows you every process that is on your computer, helps you figure out what it is and what it does, and allows you to enable or disable it.

"Easily shows what's running and what's not."

    August 13, 2012  |   By pawpaw70

    Version: Autoruns 11.33

    Pros

Plenty of tabs for each catagory of software and programs, and you can see what is running on startup and what is not.

    Cons

As a novice, i am a little cautious about stopping some programs as I am unsure if they are critical to operation or not. I would like more guidance on what is important to operation and what is just convenient !

    Summary

I certainly would recommend this sortware to anyone, but for the novice operator, I would use caution if you wish to stop a program. You might want to do some research, before cutting a program.

    "Useless, space-consuming software!"

    May 28, 2012  |   By Maxadol

    Version: Autoruns 11.31

    Pros

Can't tell until it is able to perform alleged function.

    Cons

Every time download attempted get told to associate Autorun with another program. Info on how to do this does not apply to Vista 7. Neither does it advise on which programs to associate with. But program still downloaded. Totally useless in a functional sense because of the association issue.

    "convenient at-a-glance tool"

    March 3, 2012  |   By hershey444

    Version: Autoruns 11.21

    Pros

simple, untuitive interface with nice detail. Comprehensive.

    Cons

Would like a column for file date (modified? created?) to be able to easily identify new files. Sorting by publisher would also be useful, but hard to do in a tree structure.

    Summary

I only used it once to do a thorough review of my system and it was great. I could probably find most of the info in other places in W7 and with several other tools, but this was convenient. In many cases, the lingering question persists: "do I really need this service/driver, what does it do and what depends on it" (in layman's speak), but admittedly that's beyond the scope of the tool.

I am a techie so that may be why I liked it. Maybe too much for casual users.
