"The Greatest Cad Software on the planet!"

    by im_on_crack8 on September 3, 2006

Pros: "I have been working on a condo project and I just love AutoCad 2007. I could never be without it again in my life. First I draw the floor plan & then I put it in AutoCad 2007. Within minutes, I can see how it will look from all angles. I just sit here and laugh. I think every builder should own it! (Of course I am not sure I want to share this secret) It makes me look like some kind of Genius!!!"

    "The Daddy"

by niknac on September 22, 2006

Pros: I've been using AutoCAD from Release 12, and this is the most radical release so far. AutoCAD is the best professional design tool around, and this version is the best one yet. Once you get used to the new 'feel' it's faster, more accurate, and more intuitive than previous versions. Being able to turn off the command line and have it on the cursor is just superb, and the new dynamic input is excellent too. It's backwards compatible, and allows you to save-as right back to R14 (dwg) or R12 (dxf). As a professional design tool, you've got to have it - nothing else comes close.

Cons: 1) Horribly expensive, but a necessary purchase if you're a professional designer or architect. 2) Don't get AutoCAD if you want an easy draughting tool - this is not what you're looking for - AutoCAD takes a lot of learning and you'll need to go on a course, or be very dedicated teaching yourself. 3) 3D is well supported, but is a nightmare compared to Sketchup. 4) The new 'hover highlighting' is clever, but drives me mad (turn it off with VTENABLE set to 0). 5) The help files are still difficult to use, and are just not user friendly. 6) Finally, why change the save format again? The new format is '2007' which seems to have no benefits over '2004'. Once a few people start sending drawings around in 2007 format, everyone else will have to upgrade. I believe the sole reason Autodesk is doing this is simply to sell more units - there seems to be no benefit to the user. That said, AutoCAD's something all designers and architects love to grumble about but we can't live without it either.

    "Limited downloads"

by victius on June 3, 2008

Pros: Will only download in USA/Canada. Waste of time filling in the form. Should have told me sooner and saved the bother.
