"Works very well, but UI could be better"
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
It does a great job of conversion. Even anchor links in HTML are properly translated to Kindle format.
Cons
The "peak-a-boo" UI is annoying, but not an obstacle to using the program. Also on Windows 7 I keep getting a warning that a program is trying to change something.
Summary
Don't let my quibbles detract from the usefulness of this program. It is fast, handles a good selection of input file formats and the output is very good.

"Takes ages, blocks screen and returns mojibake"
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Free and easy to install
Cons
Takes ages to convert, blocks screen while doing it, and returns mojibake (an unintelligible sequence of characters)
Summary
This program takes humongously long time to convert files. This would still be ok if it wasn't for the fact that the box showing the progress is located in the center of the screen and cannot be minimized or moved, so that you basically cannot freely use your computer for hours. After converting one small file (pdb to mobi), it came out as mojibake (an unintelligible sequence of characters) in Mobipocket reader.

"Totally useless"
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
no pros at all
Cons
Won't even open.Tried several downloads.
-
"CHM function not working"
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Easy to use. Very fast to install and load/use.
Cons
CHM conversion unreliable.
Summary
Bottom line. I only needed it to convert a CHM file. It refuses to do so saying it "cannot read the file". This is despite the fact that other "not free" software I have tested does. :( I cannot attest to any of its other functions. Either way, it downloads and installs so fast that it's worth your time to give it a shot.

"Great Product!"
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Very Easy to use, FREE!
Cons
None so far.
-
"Does the job. End file full of ads."
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Does what it says it can do.
Cons
No interface, no batch files (i.e. each file one by one must be converted), FULL OF MULTIPLE PAGE LONG AD's-"Click Here to buy ABBYY PDF Transform..." etc ad nauseum
Summary
I guess you get what you pay for. Does the job, resulting file full of ad's. 2-4 pages of ads every 4-5 pages, roughly.

"Performs as advertised, with some significant bugs."
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Allows conversion of PDF, HTML, and other common document formats to the Kindle .mobi file. Easy to install and use.
Cons
Converted files on the Kindle are "buggy." E.g, an HTML display of a document was saved (as simple HTML), converted, and transferred to Kindle. On first opening, file was not fitting in frame or formatted properly. Still playing to get it right...
Summary
This is a significant product, in allowing Kindle users to read and annotate .mobi files from other formats. This first iteration still feels like a "beta" version; but the utility of having PDF and HTML files readable on the Kindle is worth having to wrestle with the formatting - for a while. Hopefully, these issues will be ironed out in future versions.

"It's a start."
Version: Auto Kindle eBook Converter 0.4.50
Pros
Converts PDF to mobipocket which in turn lets you use Kindle features like text to speech and notes that are not available on pdf.
Cons
Some books, especially ones with layouts similar to magazines become problematic because you can't zoom in, and choosing larger type doesn't function. So the type is too small to read.
Does not bypass DRM.Summary
Overall, it's a good start. This product is in its infancy and hopefully will develop into a very useful tool with a decent interface. Being able to bypass DRM and making useful conversions, or tools to refine the conversion will go a long way.
