Overall it is a great product! It helped me make audio for a school project sound professional, clear and crisp. It has ample features that are fun to play around with and it comes in handy more often than you think.

Summary
The download and install time was amazing but that's where the amazing aspect ends. I open Audacity, start up a song, and end up doing a whopping 0 tasks with it.Everything that I can do to change, enhance, and alter a song with is missing. I had Audacity installed on my laptop for a grand total of about 2 minutes and ended up uninstalling it because there was absolutely nothing I could do with it. That's 2 minutes I'll never get back. If you want a 100% working audio software program stay away from Audacity!

It is free if you consider you technically did not pay for it.
You are told you can remove the numerous software you have no choice but to download or else you cannot download Audacity. That is the saving grace here.Cons
You HAVE TO DOWNLOAD several other software in order to get to the final download-which is AUDACITY. These programs are basically forced on to the user for purchase consideration(some are free trials).

I wanted to warn others in advance, should they decide to attempt to download AUDACITY. You can only download Audacity,if you agree to accept all that software with it- whether or not you want or need it.
I honestly was really annoyed over the fact that 6- yes, 6 programs were installed along with Audacity, even though I don't want them.
The download will now over ride Google on me, by installing a Yahoo Toolbar and changes to my home page.
Time will tell, if using Audacity is worth the annoyance of having to do several un-installs and reverting my toolbar and homepage back to the way I had it. -

I couldn't get it to work on windows 7 or maybe it was my netbook...not tried it on my new laptop but beta version is working just fine.

Glad, well sad, that I'm not the only one this did not work for on Windows 7. Cnet you ned to remove it being compatible with W7 and direct people to download the Beta version just for windows 7.

It's FREE. It is no harder to use than Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Ableton, etc. In fact it may be easier. It's FREE. It has lots of useful features. It's FREE.
Cons
It's not as pretty as Audition or Pro Tools. Those cost a lot of money.
Summary
You absolutely cannot go wrong. If you would really rather pay tons of money for something that is marginally better (protools) be my guest.

Easy to convert formats and bit rate, and it is of course free.

The UI is a bit confusing

I used this to edit greetings and hold messages for pbx systems. It did the job nicely. I'm not sure if it would hold up to more complicated audio work though. It wasn't always clear if the rate of the imported audio or the rate of the current project would be used.
