"Need 64-bit Version"

Pros
Always an awesome audio editor. Have used it for years transferring LP's and Cassette to digital format. It has all the filters that I require, and does an excellent job doing things like noise removal.
Cons
The Mac version of Audacity should be 64-bit, having come from the Linux world, and still use Linux on my Mac, running Audacity in 64-bit Ubuntu is runs far faster than on Mac. As the Mac version is only 32-bit. An example is doing an amplify of 30 Minutes of music takes about 10 seconds under 64-bit Linux and about 25 seconds under OSX.

Summary
Maybe I could have tinkered around with it, but it wasn't worth the trouble. Re-setting preferences to factory settings didn't improve the quality of the sound recordings. Recordings of identical sources were made with other programs & they came out just fine.

Shouldn't have to require a 2nd download (Lame Codec) to allow exporting edits as mp3's.

Pros
Pretty much a benchmark for basic DAW work. Analog recording, editing, sound effects. Fairly flexible on types of sound effects plugins.
Cons
Beta versions can be a bit glitchy, but stable versions are flawless. Double-check the version vs. your OS for the most stable version.
Summary
For a beta version, it's excellent. I've used Audacity since Version 1.0 on the old Mac OS 9.2 until now and it's never disappointed me. It's not as flexible as Protools, but considering Protools is a couple of grand for a full version vs. Audacity (free) it's pretty darn good.

"Clear Instructions for Beginnners AND Works on a Mac!"

Pros
I've never done any type of sound editing and had a voice recording with a constant hissing sound I wanted to eliminate. The online user manual on Audacity's website was excellent! It is well organized & very detailed, outlining the steps clearly.
Cons
When you're done editing & ready to save file, the only way to do so in mp3 (or whatever format of orig file), you must download a separate program file (LAME). A bit confusing at first but only took a couple minutes.
Summary
This program functions smoothly, is easy to use and seems like the user can do a lot with it because there were a long list of choices in the drop down menus. I'm so glad it works on mac! Hard to believe it's free!
