    "AT LAST. It's installed!"

    May 15, 2004  |   By billhiltonjr

    Version: AuctionSieve 1.3.23

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Thanks to on-going responses from the developer (Nev), I finally was able to install AuctionSieve, and it works beautifully.

Nev suggested I try installing AuctionSieve as a "root" application, which requires you to create a new user account at the root level of your Mac. It's not as ideal as a freestanding installer, but it isn't too hard to do.

Instructions on how to create a root user account are at http://www.osxfaq.com/Tutorials/Root_User_Creation/index.ws . Just create the root account, find the AuctionSieve installer, run it, log out, and then log back in with your regular account.

Hope this helps relieve the frustration many of us have felt. :-)

    "EXCELLENT product!"

    May 13, 2004  |   By siddhartha

    Version: AuctionSieve 1.3.23

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
One version ( a few versions ago) had an issue where it would get hung up updating my old auction info-auctions would come up as current, then update to being completed, then repeat-I had to force quit the program then, but since a re-install, and a few version upgrades, it worked out exceptionally well.

I now trust this program to find the good auctions, and to help me sift out the garbage-it does this quite well. However, it is a good idea to search eBay directly time to time, to make sure this one catches everything. I have set up sieves before, and found perhaps 50 items, and have found 75 when going directly to eBay.

Overall, a GREAT tool, and well worth the d/l

    "Most useful download this year"

    April 25, 2004  |   By Martin Turner--2008

    Version: AuctionSieve 1.3.16

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is the most useful piece of software I've downloaded this year, and the usage tips provided dramatically increase its value.

I'm mostly interested in buying pro-audio and Nikon photographic equipment. Nikon is relatively simple to search on eBay, because they have a section for it, but pro-audio is a menace -- although eBay runs a section, it's often full of people offering cheap karaoke, aerobics or home-use equipment which they hype by calling it 'professional'. And then there's all the people who put 'Not Marshall Fender Mesa' on their items. Auction Sieve allows me to exclude all these kinds of things.

What's more, it can categorise stuff according to multiple parameters, so that poorly described bargains can float to the top.

Auction Sieve can't mechanically find what's worth buying and what isn't, but it can leverage the knowledge you have to give you a competitive advantage that the snipers can't reproduce without knowing as much as you.

"an eBay tool for Mac? great support? free? just..."

    April 3, 2004  |   By dp1974

    Version: AuctionSieve 1.3.8

    Summary

    ...'buy it' now!
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
One of the problems with a Mac is the lack of support from eBay in direct proportion to our abundance of taste in using a Mac in the first place. Especially if you are not in the States - at the moment, third-party eBay software for Mac is US eBay based only. So any tools that we Mac eBayers find we snap up but invariably end up disappointed.

AuctionSieve is the exception that proves the rule. Nev, the developer, is just a pretty good guy. Software made by good and geniune people tends to be Mac and tends to be a snap to use. AuctionSeive does what it says: it helps you sort through the millions of objects in that kooky virtual bazzar that is eBay. You can save individual searches, and refine them even further by using 'catch' words or phrases to limit the search and make it more specific.

But the best thing about it is the support I am getting from the developer. I had a few issues with downloading updates and Neville patiently and methodically sorted out my issues. How many times do you pay good money only to get a run-around email from a software company? Yet this baby is free!

... at the moment anyway. Software this good should be on the market. If you use eBay in anything but a casual capacity and don't have AuctionSeive, good: just means that I will be able to do better as an eBayer than you. Let's keep it that way.

"Great tool for wading through EBay"

    January 24, 2004  |   By Psyrglz

    Version: AuctionSieve 1.3.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am not an EBay addict, and don't know much about other similar tools that may be available, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how effective and fast this app makes searching EBay. I really would like the ability to filter the search by region, since what I'm looking for right now is heavy and not reasonable to ship, but other than that I only have minor quibbles. It's Java, which is fine but means that it's not quite up to the interface standards you're used to on OS X, (menus in the window title, for instance) but that also means it runs on more than one platform. Developer support is outstanding - he fixed the OS X view link bug I was having overnight. Be sure to get the update to 1.3.5.

"An absolute must have for your everyday eBay addict"

    January 22, 2004  |   By wheeles

    Summary

AFter some initial teething problems with the View links (you need to update the app to the next beta of 1.3.4), this app worked really well and helped me target a large number of auctions for bidding while filtering out the rubbish.

I'll certainly be using this in future auction searches.
