    "This might be garbage"

    November 13, 2013  |   By bjkwjk1323

    Version: Ashampoo Snap 6.0.10

    Pros

    It captured video.
    Not expensive.

    Cons

Will not let me edit the video as advertised.
When I contacted Ashampoo support about this issue here was the reply :
    "Hello,

you are not able to edit the videos captured with Snap.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    MfG/Regards

    Summary

After careful evaluation of the screen capture software options out there, I chose to purchase Ashampoo Snap 6. This product is advertised on the Ashampoo website as being "the only software you will ever need"; Capture,Edit,Publish. I can capture and I can publish, but I can't edit. The menu bar which is supposed to be at the left side of my screen, won't appear. When I contacted Ashampoo about this issue their reply stated that "you are not able to edit video captures with snap" Huh? is this just an ill informed "support" person? Or did I get duped? I have sent additional inquiries to Ashampoo about this issue and will update accordingly if we can get the software to work properly.

    Updated on Nov 13, 2013

Shortly after writing this review I received a 2nd email from Ashampoo "support". Here is the reply:
    Hello,

we are sorry for the misunderstanding. The sentence "capture, edit and publish screenshots and videos" should have been removed due to its misleading. As you can see in the US-translation of our site it has been removed. Here you will find the sentence "The only software you will ever need".

    https://www.ashampoo.com/en/eur/pin/0824/Multimedia_Software/Ashampoo-Snap-6

We have sent your feedback to our developers to change this.

We may offer you a refund for your purchase if you want to. Please tell us your reference number so we can adivse it.

The link posted in the response takes me back to the place where I bought this software initially. It clearly states in multiple places that the software allows users to edit. Also, the help file clearly shows screen shots of and speaks to edit functionality. Needless to say, I am going to accept the refund that was offered.

    "Grab That Video!"

    March 12, 2013  |   By gcapp99

    Version: Ashampoo Snap 6.0.4

    Pros

Performs as advertised for capturing Video with Sound.

    Cons

Configuration is set for No Audio by default. Not a major deal to figure out the interface then check the Capture Sound box.

    Summary

I needed to record a Webinar- Google suggested Camtasia and Replay products, but I really didn't want to spend $40.00 or more for the software.

I own other Ashampoo software and have been happy with their stuff, and I vaguely remembered that they had a capture product from a promotional e-mail they sent me a while back.

I went to their site and read about Snap 6 which sounded like it would do the job for me. Nice price too: $19.99

For kicks I Googled "Snap 6 coupon" and found a RegNow/DigitalRiver link and bought it for $10.39USD. Such a deal!

SUMMARY: Snap 6 is a very useful & functional capture program. My need was to record a Webinar. I was able to define the portion of my screen I wanted to capture and the software worked perfectly.

Kudos to Ashampoo for making some very cool software available at a very affordable price! Like anyone else I would have loved to get it for free, but on the other hand the price I paid was extremely reasonable and will hopefully encourage and enable them to develop new offerings.

CONFIGURATION NOTE: I'm running Vista Home Premium on a webcam-equipped laptop. After I got Snap 6 to capture the audio as well as the video I discovered the microphone was also being recorded. Had to go to Control Panel to kill the volume on the mic and all is well.

    "Incredibly useful screen snapshot utility"

    February 4, 2013  |

    Version: Ashampoo Snap 6.0.4

    Pros

Full-featured, works well and gets the job done

    Cons

Confusing at first. It's not particularly intuitive

    Summary

All in all it's a very useful utility but lack of intuitiveness makes it difficult for 1st time users.

    "SNAP 6 Purchase brings SPAM!"

    January 7, 2013  |   By teachermac

    Version: Ashampoo Snap 6.0.3

    Pros

    Minimally better then SNAP 5

    Cons

Constant Service Message popup on every boot

Brain dead marketing department constantly promoting product upgrade from versions 3 & version 5 now and ever since initially upgrading to version 5!

    Summary

Considering there is no quality control for the email responses they send (my 6 year old grand-daughter does better) support takes days and not correct or helpful and the spam-ware installed with the software I'm ashamed I upgraded!
