Version: Ashampoo FireWall Free 1.2
"Free, like Zone Alarm, but with more protection"
Pros: Ashampoo FireWall gives you heavy-duty firewall protection: Monitors all your computer's
network activity and protects you against both incoming and
outgoing connections.
Simple and compact with self-explanatory user interface. It is a very small
program that uses minimum memory and resources
The Learning Mode automatically identifies programs that try to make
connections and lets you decide whether you want to allow them.
One-click operation in Easy Mode or full configuration in Expert Mode.
It creates rules for every program that controls how they can
access the network.
It offers a One-click panic button for emergencies that lets you block
all traffic, for example if you are under attack or suspect that a
malicious program is active.
The System Processes Monitor Checks running processes and stops
them if necessary. Allows you to display all processes, only system
processes or only non-system processes.
Ashampoo FireWall can also monitor
the local connections used inside your computer. Useful for
identifying suspicious activity. Can be enabled or disabled.
It monitors all the local LAN traffic into and
out of your computer. Can be enabled or disabled.
It has detailed logging of all internal, LAN, and Internet
connections with date, time, application, port used and IP address.
Easy / Expert Mode,
AutoStart Manager, Internet Cleaner, and IP Spam Blocker. Try it, it's FREE!

"ATTENTION IT IS NOT IN STEALTH MODE!"
Pros: It blocks effectively all outbound traffic. This I have tested with a program called -Leak Test- from Gibson Research Corporation.

Cons: I am very sorry for this. In my last review of Ashampoo Firewall Version 1.02, I thought that I had tested it against Sygate Security Check, but I did not actually do that. I was in a hurry, took my laptop to the company that I work for, connected it to the internet and made some scans with Sygate Security Check. Every port was in stealth mode. I totally forgot that there existed another firewall, the one that belongs to the company! It was this firewall, and not Ashampoos, that was in stealth mode! I had already written the review before I realized this. Silly! I apologize! Very sorry! Now, at last, I got a new chance with this new version, and it is not in stealth mode. I think this is very bad! Xps own firewall is in stealth mode! You can, as an alternative, activate both firewalls and your PC will be in stealth mode. Windows Security Centre does not, either, recognize this firewall. That is bad too.

"Other freeware much better!!!"
Cons: After restart, you have 3 options...continue 10 day trial, buy pro version or get unlimited freeware license. Since freeware license option did nothing I had to continue trial. There are 2 config-modes, easy and advanced. Easy is severely limited in it's functions and security, as you cannot define the ruleset for allowed apps. Advanced mode is not intuitive as it only allowed OutlookExpress and InternetExplorer. To open Opera, go to Download.com and sign in took no less than 2-dozen pop-ups....which continue with EVERY website!!!! I found ZoneAlarm has less pop-ups, AgnitumOutpost does more, Filseclab uses less ram.....and all 3 are easier to config! Does NOT uninstall cleanly.... needed CCleaner and regedit to finish uninstall! I would use XP/SP2 firewall before this because it allowed some apps. that were not defined in the ruleset! Sorry but a 10 day trial is very short for trialware, so I would have to say that this is a gateway product for their pro version and would wait for version 2 before trying again!!!!

Version: Ashampoo FireWall Free 1.2
Pros: Very easy to use and the program learns very quickly which software in your pc that you allow access to the internet. Nice interface. Easy to use. Just install and forget. All ports are in stealth mode (all ports are hidden)! I have, with this updated version, just tested this with Sygates Security Scan. It, also, blocks effectively all outbound traffic. This I have tested with a program called -Leak Test- from Gibson Research Corporation. The program is very light on resources and memory and it is also free as a bird!

Version: Ashampoo FireWall Free 1.2
Pros: Nice interface. Easy to configure. Light footprint.
Cons: Incompatible with avast! 4.8 antivirus. Nasty conflict - may need to uninstall in safe mode if you are affected.
