"Program works, but it's the OTHER stuff that sucks"

June 14, 2011  |  By make_or_break

 |  Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio 10.0.10

Pros

Easy to use interface, fast ripping tool. Good-sounding files.

Cons

Associated Conduit Apps Engine secretly installed toolbar and changed homepage in FF4, tried the same but blocked in IE9. Abuses admin privileges.

Summary

Downloaded this to test CD ripping problems with my TSSTCorp DVD burner.with another media app. Chose it because of relatively high ratings here on CNET. The finished install of the trial version was slick, and did the ripping quite fast with good-sounding MP3 files on the finish end. But in this version it didn't accept tag data edits (I could make the edits but Ashampoo didn't embed them into the finished rips), nor did it have an album art database to draw from, leaving it up to me to use another program to hunt down or otherwise acquire the artwork from other resources.

But the worst thing about this install was the Conduit Engine, a third-party app installation utility that was bundled with the actual program. I made the install from a non-admin user account in Win7, but provided the requisite admin password to allow the install to happen. Conduit Engine secretly installed an Ashampoo toolbar in FireFox 4 and tried to do the same in IE9, but safeguards within IE prevented it from happening automatically. Moreover CE rudely CHANGED the homepage of FF4 without any user input or acknowledgement. Unacceptable behavior for ANY program. If I ever had any notion that I would keep this program it went down the toilet with the Conduit Engine's abusive acts. There were other examples of CE's abuses of the admin rights; I uninstalled the Ashampoo package in the user account, but when the routine opened up FF to go to a feedback web page, it was using the ADMIN account FF profile(!). It was simple to tell this right away because of the lack of add-ons I have with the admin FF profile. With this sort of invasive behavior there's NO WAY any Ashampoo app will ever find its way onto any of my machines again.

As a heads up, if you do decide to try Ashampoo and then decide to uninstall for whatever reason, you will also have to uninstall the Conduit Engine separately. For me, the whole sordid episode left a very BAD taste. In my book Ashampoo now sucks for choosing to partner with Conduit.

Updated on Jul 19, 2011

Based upon comments left after my review, it seems that there is an opt-out for the installation routine to keep Ashampoo from changing browser settings. Well and good, but my point is why should a media program WANT TO CHANGE BROWSER SETTINGS in its default install routine in the first place? Easy CD-DA Extractor didn't do this. MediaMonkey didn't do this. iTunes didn't do this. Zune software didn't do this. Sorry, but a conscientious organization would openly tell a user that settings would change before proceeding with the install. Most people don't choose a customized install, in part because most 'custom' installs involves in-depth knowledge of what the user wants the program itself to do (hard to do when there's no prior experience), and Ashampoo knew that. However benign it perhaps was in The Big Picture, it's still a classic example of abusive social engineering by recognizing what an average person wold proceed and using that to their advantage. That's a F grade, period.

"Best Burning Software I've seen yet."

July 11, 2011  |  By Tinman811

 |  Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio 10.0.10

Pros

Inexpensive. Easy to use yet feature rich. Does it all.

Cons

None that I have found. I have not tried the Blu-Ray functions.

Summary

Over the years I have used many different products from various developers but Ashampoo really nailed it with Buring Studio 10. Previous to this my favorite was Burning Studio 9 but many new features have been added making this a great value and a really great piece of software.
I can't think of a feature that isn't included.
Here at my company, Networking Delaware, we use a lot of Ashampoo products for their reasonable cost and utility but I think Burning Studio 10 is one of their best products to date.

"Studio 10 is great. I have purchased three copies."

 |  Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio 10.0.10

Pros

Easy for me to use. I create a custom file, click, and get on with life. I don't have the hassle of going through several menus when I want to get something done. When something special is necessary the tools are there to do it. It's just easy.

Cons

You have to pay for it to get all the features. Well, that's the only con I could think of.

Summary

I liked it so much I bought it for all my working computers. I downloaded the full version of Studio 9 when it was offered for free. I tried Studio 10 and liked it better. Studio 9 was good and free is always good but Studio 10 is easier and faster. For years I used Easy CD Creator and every time I connected up a new CD/RW I had a hassle with the drivers. Studio 10 has already had the drivers for all the writers I have; internal and external.

"A full CD / DVD Burning Suite for all your needs!"

June 26, 2011  |  By MatrixLeader

 |  Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio 10.0.10

Pros

It is a full suite packed into one program, without adding any bloatware like other programs these days have done such as Nero!

You can create Data CD,s Pictures, Music CDs (Both MP3 and regular Audio CD that can be played on any player, and DVDs

Cons

None! Seriously, I have been using Ashampoo Burning Studio ever since version 6 and have never experienced a single problem! Top notch product!

Summary

This program will save you the hassle of installing multiple programs to convert audio or video to put them on a disc in any format, be it an MP3 disc, or a simple Audio Disc, or a full fledged DVD video disc which can be compiled from any video on your computer with any format. Just open a new DVD project, then drag and drop the video files from your computer into the window, and tada! Ashampoo burning studio will do the rest for you!

Everything in the menu is categorized in a very neat manner so you never get confused.

All the major CD/DVD burning programs quality has deteriorated drastically over the past few years and you find yourself installing one program, but 10 other programs install on the side which as not even necessary and too confusing. Ashampoo Burning Studio has continued the trend of offering a full well packaged program that can suite all your needs, without filling your computer with bloatware and unnecessary programs, and makes you create things simply, but with style!

"It's good, but I don't recommend it."

June 20, 2011  |  By lilsh0rtiiexx

 |  Version: Ashampoo Burning Studio 10.0.10

Pros

-Great interface.
-Easy to use.
-GREAT quality.
-Burns every fast! Even in the lowest burning rate.

Cons

-Doesn't convert files so it can be played on a DVD player.

Summary

Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend this program. Although it has a great interface and is easy to use, it just doesn't convert the files so it can be played in a DVD player. If the files are already converted using another program, then this program works great! But I am not looking for a program that doesn't convert the files before writing the disk.

Therefore, if you're looking for a burning program to burn DVDs to watch on your TV, I do not recommend you to download this. It will just be a waste of time.
