Pros
Incredible choice of effects, textures and color gradients including a huge selection of pre-installed icons and graphic arts ready to be transformed. Best steel & metallic effects I have seen yet, and so easy to apply or customize.
Cons
Not much to criticize because it covers it all: fast, easy, customizable, accurate.

I have been a user of Art Text since version 1.
Three main points: web & press - adding your own graphics - full customization
Art Text delivers texts & graphics with very nice and effective effects like many other software, but you can choose to use it for the web (probably its first intent) AND press-printed documents, just by selecting your size and output resolution in various formats (tif, jpg, etc).
Besides the numerous graphic arts included, you can add to the library your own graphics and transformed them completely with the software.
All effects proposed can be customized by varying colors, gradient angle, number of gradients, lighting, size, resolution, textures, fonts... and save your modifications as a new style repeatable on other graphics later.

I have used the software for both web and press projects: buttons, headlines, page decoration, etc. You can learn the basic working in a few minutes but the more you use it the more you discover all its possibilities.
Automatic rendering makes you edit any changes fast and precisely. The GUI is user-friendly, and it shows you right away what the effect does. No rendering time spent and undo is available.Without leaving your original art, you can walk through one effect after the other before making your final choice.
To make it short, it is a superb piece of software which can meet a lot of graphic effect challenges which would have taken you a long time to get via Photoshop or similar software. And the price is low! -

I love this software but I am having a big problem getting the disk image of the downloaded update (2.2) to mount. I get a warning not to open it. Tried twice now to download from two sources and the problem persists. HEEEELP!!!!

Amidst all the rave reviews, I have to say that unless you're just going to do some basic modifications based on the templates provided, this is probably one of the more difficult-to-use products I have encountered in nearly 25 years of Macsperience.
Aside from my project-specific complaint of not being able to combine more than two layers (cannot combine three text elements into a single layer), text formatting is extremely un-Mac-like (you never know what size you're dealing with).
Help describes procedures that are different from what you actually have to do. -

The very first version was great and it just gets better. It's hard to produce something that looks bad with a little effort. Version 2 is a whole new ball-game allowing for much creative flexiblity I had hoped would come one day. That day has arrived. Bravo. Good price too.

I am really happy with my upgrade to 2.0. The new features, including the new layers, transparency enhancements, and other features are too cool. This was a great product and price for 1.2.5. The 2.0 version is a fabulous upgrade; well worth the upgrade price. I have had a few graphical problems on my G-5 2x2ghz PPC that are being worked on now; the developer has been very responsive. I would encourage anyone to buy this, but I would be less than honest not to mention that, until the next version, there are minor problems where work in progress may be lost - after time. Make sure you get new upgrades when available. Finish your ArtText tasks and save them as soon as possible. -

The new version 2.0 contains so many enhancements that it's simply impossible to resist buying it. I upgraded to it only after a few minutes of trying it. Art Text 2 has now a more intuitive interface that allows faster access to its tools and in my opinion has a quicker rendering as well. I had been waiting for an OS X version of TypeStyler, but I'm afraid that Art Text will likely displace it as my preferred text-effects application. You can do some amazing things with this at a price that beats other packages.
