"Very simplistic, quick and worked on corrupt SD card"

    July 8, 2009  |   By Frankster14

    Pros

recovered all but 3 or 4 photos out of 320+ on corrupt SD Card

    Cons

none, except perhaps would be even better if mp3 files and video could be recovered as well

    Summary

I have a Samsung Instinct phone and somehow the 2GB card fouled on me, crashing over 320 photos, plus music, a few video clips, etc. with it in the process. In the phone settings, I could see that I had 500MB+ of data on the card, but neither the phone, nor a laptop/Card reader could find the individual files. 2 calls to pleasant Sprint customer service, but they were at a loss after trying several rather creative ways to recover the data. Grateful for their attempts but disappointed with the results, I scoured the internet and found that this wasn?t an uncommon occurrence for the SD cards that shipped with the Instinct. But no solutions were available on any of the forums that I could find, other than to attempt to recover the data somehow. Sprint and Samsung should address this issue, but that's a topic for another day.

Next step ? recovery software. I tried several, but many were specifically geared to recovering files that were accidentally deleted, not files where the card had actually corrupted. Long story short, and several failed attempts and/or pricey data recovery solutions later, I found Art Plus Photo Recovery. While I wasn?t able to recover the several mp3 music tracks that I had on my phone, I wasn?t too concerned over that, as I could add the tracks back from my original CDs. But since I hadn?t backed up my photos, those were my priority. I?m thrilled to say that I was able to recover virtually all of the photos that I thought were gone on my corrupt SD card, with the exception of just a couple of files, and that might be due to the fact that they could have been overridden by additional photos taken before I realized the card had gone bad. The software was easy to install, intuitive to use, and was relatively quick - in a matter of several minutes it found my files and recovered them.

Art Plus Photo Recovery does exactly what the name says ? they recover photos, and do a great job of it. I highly recommend this to anyone who has suffered through the loss of data on an SD card. Don?t give up until you?ve given it a try.
