    "Pretty good product"

    July 13, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

Nice interface, kind of like the previous non-java version that I have been using for years.

Functional and free without installing hidden AD software!

Global search and replace, spell check are awesome features to have.

If you read the negative complaints most are from people that do not understand how Java works. These people should probably not be writing web pages if they can't figure Java out.

The search for default browser does not work for mozilla, but you can manually override this to work around it. Otherwise it seems to be very functional.

"I recommend this app without reservation"

    July 7, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

I've been using this app for a few years now, and I recommend it without reservation. It's been a fantastic tool. I'm confused by all the folks having problems with it and can only surmise that they're not following all instructions for installation. The problems are likely what tech support folks call a PEBCAK (problem exists between chair and keyboard). My grandmother uses it on a Win 95 box!

"Good product, simple editor with decent UI"

    June 20, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

It is a good HTML/XML/JavaScript editor, not too fancy but efficient and easy to use.

I noticed that a few people had trouble installing it, It is a Java application so you need to have a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your box to use it, or you need to download a version of Arachnophilis with a JRE included. People looking for an EXE file will not find one because java doesn't use EXE files. To run a java 'jar' file you type something like

    java -jar arachnophilia.jav

provided that java is in your environment variable 'path'.

"The most useful free tool I have come across"

    May 21, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

I learnt html on version 4. Although other programmes may be fancier this gives you the bare bones of programming which is all you need. It does what you want it to do rather than limiting you to the confines of its programme, which means you can be as simple or as complicated as you like. If it doesn't work it is not the fault of the programme, it is the fault of this site because it doesn't give you everything you need - you need to go to Arachnophilias own site and follow their instructions.
I have used Arachnophilia for years and I agree it is a programme which is often overlooked in favour of flashier ones but it doesn't deserve to be. It fulfills the needs of beginners and experts alike and as you learn more you can do more.

"got it for home, use it at both home and school"

    May 14, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

I learned HTML on the previous verion of this fine program, but haven't really done much web work since this one came out.

So it sat on my hard drive until I started doing Java programing for school...and I when I set up my PC to program in java, it was ready to go.

Now, in addition to programming java on my windows machine, I am able to use it on the linux system at my university(much, much nicer than any other eidtor I've seen on linux).

Sure it takes some time to go to the programmer's website and install it correctly...but it is well worth it for this solidly reliable careware product.

"Crappy compared to previous non-Java versions"

    April 19, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

I've used various of the non-Java versions for several years with great success. When I tried the Java version I barfed on my keyboard it was so awful. The author is plenty smart so I have to think that the missing and awkward features in the Java version are a result of constraints of Java rather than the inability of the author to implement what he wants.

After I saw how bad this is I uninstalled it and the JVM from my system. Total thumbs down.

    "RTFM - needs JAVA"

    April 12, 2004  |

    Version: Arachnophilia 5.2 build 1902

    Summary

This isn't one of the load and play programs You need to do some work - you need the Java Runtime Environment, since Paul Lutus doesn't program for Windows. If it doesn't work, don't blame the programmer. He knows what he's doing. Get Java and have some fun.
