"FINALLY a stable / usable release of iMovie 3"
Version: Apple iMovie '11 3.0.3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
iMovie 3.03 is the first release that is stable in my environment (MDD dual 1GHz / OSX 10.2.6 / QuickTime 6.3). With prior 3.x releases, I couldn't edit long projects (1hr +) without constant crashes. Now, with the 3.03 release, I've been editing to my hearts content for several hours without a crash. THANK YOU APPLE for a reliable release.
Unfortunately, I must only give it 4 stars because peformance, while much improved over earlier 3.x releases, is still not what it was in 2.x. In my very large project (1hr), cropping a clip or deleting one or more clips causes a 2-5 second delay. Annoying, but usable at last. -
"Still only halfway there"

3.0.3 (w/6.3) is a definite improvement over the previous 3.0.x versions, but it STILL hasn't fixed some major problems I'm having with imported 2.1 projects. For one, if you click the window anywhere there isn't anything to click on (just below the timeline, for example), and if the project is big enough you'll get a spinning beachball stall for a couple of seconds. Same stall upon pressing play in the timeline, which gets annoying really fast. Reversed clips also seem to have a short pause at the begining, and the timing on things synched with an audio clip seems to be a hair off. I'll probably use 3 for new projects now, but it just won't cut it for carefully timed projects created in 2. -

"Still needs work"

It's really good, but it still crashed on me, first while importing, one of the clips froze-- when I stopped the camera to re-import the program crashed. So far not crashing on music track editing like before. overall the program seems to have improved. :) -
"3.0.3 Is Great"

Looks as if Apple has got iMovie running as it should. The improvement to the "Ken Burns" component is worth 5 stars alone. Don't know if it's iMovie 3.0.3 and/or QT 6.3, but now when i click behind or in front of the playhead pointer, it jumps immediately to that point. Was getting a beachball for about 20 seconds before it jumped to the point I selected with prior v3s. Kudoes, Apple, kudos. -

How many programmers does Apple have? Jeez, great work. I too have had almost ZERO troubles with this (and most) Apple software. -

Always. Don't get why people have been having all these problems. I'm talking about 3.0.3 :) -
"Still disfunctional..."

Some report improvements after 10.2.6 system update, but the data is inconclusive. If you have iMovie 2.1.2, keep it and use it. I am waiting for version 3.1, or Avid FreeDV, whatever comes out first.
