"Why Does Every Developer Wish to Sync To iCal?"

      March 17, 2007   |   By EndlessFx

      Version: Apple iCal 2.0.5

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
iCal is one of the biggest messes a developer has ever created. It doesn't show the calendars I've imported and does very little else. AND, every developer out there wants to sync, import, or something to iCal, which doesn't work. MarketCircle, for instance, makes me import to iCal if I have any hope of extracting the DayLite information to use anywhere else. Well, DayLite is shakey and iCal is DOA. How the heck can you win? And iCal is not eye-candy to me. For a company that is touted for its machines, Apple sure does put out crappy software.

      "Downgrades"

      November 30, 2005   |   By Roguewolf

      Version: Apple iCal 2.0.5

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Alright Apple, I am actually using 2.0.3, but 1.5.5 is the most recent Versiontracker has listed. I have been using iCal since it first came out years ago. It was a great little app with such potentialâ?¦then the sad tragedy ensued that has made it what it is today. The first major "upgrade" I did was definately a downgrade, along with most of the rest. The one improvement with which I was happy was the ability to set alarms and to have it automatically open programs. The first thing to go, though, was the floating info window. It was replaced by that panel that slides out from the side. This wouldn't be so bad, except the window sticks off the side of my screen, and the next "upgrade" made app resizes itself whenever I click the info button instead of just sticking off the side of the screen if I do not move it over on the screen so it has enough room (Apple, I keep the main window the size it is for a reason: SO I CAN ACTUALLY READ IT ON MY SMALL 12 INCH MONITOR). The most recent "upgrade" took away the ability to mark events as either tentative, confirmed, or cancelled. I have a very busy schedule, and now I am always worried I am going to show up to an event that was never set in stone and wonder where everyone is, or end up missing an event because I delete it by mistake thinking it is not longer happening. Also, iCal has a glitch--if the clock resets and you open iCal before you set the clock to the right time, iCal sets off every alarm it has ever had set up to the time it reset to. If they changed things back to the way it was originally and kept the alarms, it would be great. On the up side, I cannot remember it crashing before.

      "same here too"

      December 14, 2004   |   By winnertakesall

      Version: Apple iCal 2.0.5

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
MenuCalendarClock caused the installer to stall and continuously ask to quit iCal, whereas I had done so before attempting to install. Had to force-quit the Finder then quit MCC, with strange effects: FireWire devices stopped mounting, even after a reboot. Had to repair permissions and reboot twice. Apple should have warned about this. The stars off are for the installer.

      "iCal's interface still not improved"

      Summary

iCal's interface has still not improved. I'm glad they have done some fixes for security and whatnot. But where's the real improvements to iCal?? It's got some nice features, still seems to be in its infancy, but it seems like it's SLOW going on improvements.

      "Detaching the Drawer"

      January 21, 2004   |   By Gary Lubenow

      Summary

You can only detach the drawer if the drawer is showing. Click the 'show info' button, then the 'detach window' option activates. This is a really helpful feature to an already great application. Now if it just had Palm category and Birthday support...

Well, after having gone without alarms ever since I upgraded to iCal 1.5.1, I am happy to report that 1.5.2 finally fixes the bug. Which makes this a really great program again!

      "JUST ONE THING!"

      Summary

I love iCal and use it constantly. There is only one thing I would like to see on it. Most Mac apps will copy an item dragged with the Option key down. For some reason you can't drag/copy an iCal event with the option key. Why is this? I've sent feedback on this to Apple, but there is no reply.

      Yours sincerely,

      John Davis
