VERY BAD UPDATE. DO NOT INSTALL.

If you have not already installed "Security Update 2008-006," DO NOT INSTALL IT, especially if you are using a laptop and change "Locations" often! Thousands and thousands of OS X 10.4.11 users are finding it impossible to use the Network preference pane after applying this update. There is no fix from Apple at this time, and although there are some work-arounds. Mostly it breaks your system.

VERY BAD UPDATE. DO NOT INSTALL.

      "You couldn't wait"

      December 22, 2007   |   By Ancient_Boii_Tribe

Version: Apple Security Update 2007-009 1.1

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
APPLE why did you have to do this right at Christmas and destroy everyones holiday. My printer "WAS" the only one working in the house and my youngest step-daughter is in law school and was sick for two weeks and has to play catch up. So there is no taking off a few days for Christmas.

Does Mr. Roybal still work at Apple, I want to talk with him. I designed and built his mahogany book case with the blue marble and rolling ladder in his library of his home in Cupertino. I also did the kitchen with the black stone counter tops.

It looks like I will have to use superduper to clone to my slave drive, then erase the master and do a clean install of 10.4.

Then see if I can copy my apps to the fresh install and still have them working. I've never done any of this so crossing my fingers cause I have no idea where most of my software disks are.

If I screw up it will be a good class action law suit. My step-daughter's father has one of the most powerful law firms in the country. He's not going to like it that this Stupid update cost her lower grades. She is one of the 1% in the country.

So put that in your stocking apple and all you people that feel you have a right to shoot down my comments. I don't attack your free speech.

      "Broken Cups"

      December 20, 2007   |   By Ancient_Boii_Tribe

      Version: Apple Security Update 2007-009

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well this broke my cups big time. I've tried everything in my power. Every time I need to print now I have to open the application "Print Setup Repair" and start cups up then everything is cool till the next restart. I would install CUPS 1.3.5 or what ever but I don't know how to do that compile or what ever those open sore things are. If someone would like to do that for us idiots that only know how to use installers that would be so kind.

I think apple should fix this because they broke it. I've worked steady on this for two days. Today is my 52 birthday and this is all I've been doing. I'm done F**K this.

"May cause dual G5's to crash!?"

      April 21, 2007   |   By Portunus

      Version: Apple Security Update 2007-004

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Some users below report no problems; others
      (JohnnaGirl, jonathan51, gudrick) report problems.
My problem is just like jonathan51's (hard crash
with fans on full blast, imitating a vacuum cleaner).
Repeatable. Machine won't run more than two hours.

I suspect the serious problems with this update
affect dual-G5 machines (because I've also installed
this security update on a G4 and an Intel core duo
      powerbook without incident.)

The problem seems to be a kernel panic caused, probably,
when "A driver releasing a(n) IOUSBMassStorageClass has
      corrupted the registry."

I suspect such corruption could affect different users
differently - your results vary on what your registry
      looks like.

My problems were resolved by re-installing the OS 10.4 from
CD, then applying all updates through 10.4.9, but NOT
      applying security update 2007-0004.

      "Finder bug?"

      Version: Apple Security Update 2007-004

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Shortly after installing the update and restarting, when I clicked on a file to rename it and the name editing mode switched on (this is in List view) I found that keyboard input was still directed to a different window, the one that was frontmost before. That is, the file I clicked on became highlighted but the window it was sitting in did not become the active window. I have never seen that behavior before. Time will tell whether it was a one-time fluke.

No runs no drips no errors, the first restart afterwards was a bit long, and made me a bit nervous. But it came up and all has worked just fine.

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
FW410 link lost. Had to completely remove all drivers, install latest driver and re-install the most stable driver (3 back from current). In all, about 50 minutes of instal and restarts. Works now. You'd think I'd have those dance steps down by now...

      Summary

      ...QuickSilver (2001)
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Updated 10.4.8 on both the G5 and the G4 via their Software Update. Not even one permission needed repair on the G5 but Disk Utility did find and correct a permissions problem on the G4. Both had tested clean prior to the Security Update.

      Respectfully, Norm

From what I can tell everything is working fine after this update. Don't forget to perform the routine maintenance before and after upgrading. Installed on a G4 iMac.
