    "Use the prior version"

    March 12, 2012  |   By macski

    Version: Apple Safari 5.1.4

    Pros

Pros are outweighed by a very bog con.

    Cons

After updating Safari to 5.14 all of buy bookmarks and items on the bookmarks bar had disappeared. I am unable to import bookmarks from Chrome or Firefox as the bookmarks files (.plst and/or html) are grayed out. I exported b bookmarks from Chrome and that file was also grayed out. I went back to my last backed up copy and tried replacing the new Bookmarks.plist file with the one from backup. Safari 5.1.4 did not recognize the new file. Bottom line, I am left with a new version of Safari with none of my previous bookmarks available.

As a result my rating for this vex ion of Safari is one star. The absence of earlier b bookmarks makes it basically useless. I am one of those people that liked Safari. It had its quirks, but basically it was OK. The new version is not.

    "Good for the basics"

    January 1, 2012  |   By macmaster900

    Version: Apple Safari 5.1.2

    Pros

Fast, Reliable, Easy to Use, Clean interface, Apple, Safe, Pop-Up Blocker, Reader, Extensions, Smart Search Bar, Customizable

    Cons

    Slows, Memory Leaks, Buggy

    Summary

Safari web browser is good for the basics and is easy to use. Since Safari 5 Apple has added support for extensions. Apple made the extensions completely right you do not have to restart Safari when it installs the extension. The pop-up blocker is really good I have tested it with many pop-up blocker testing sites and I have only had two or three pop up. There are memory leaks but what browser doesn't, although Apple is fully aware and has recently put an update out that fixed the memory leak I had found. The Google Bar (Search Bar) is exceptionally useful when you search it acts like a normal Search Bar, But when you click a site and navigate through it you'll have to usually click back multiple times. With Safari no you don't a little orange back arrow will appear in the bar, when you click the arrow it brings you right back to your results. The downloads menu is no longer a menu its more like a drop down box that gets the job done very well and is very easy to use. Safari's toolbar is very customizable you right-click it say customize and you get plenty of options like "Mail to Friend" which will mail the link to the current page your on. You can also add a "Report bugs to Apple" button if you run into any issues within your browsing session. If you're on a blog or news site like CNET, a little "Reader" button in the URL bar will show, if you click the button it will open a quick look view of the text with no ads and you can customize the font size to your liking. On the bookmarks bar there is a "Reading list" button that you can save articles to read later and it will sync with all your iDevices Safari's so you can remember the article to read later. I highly recommend this browser.

    Version: Apple Safari 5.1.1

    Pros

Safari 5.1.1 is snappier than 5.1 and not any more memory hog. Like its integration with mac applications, elegant look.

    Cons

There should be an option to make private browsing default.

    "complete disaster"

    September 11, 2011  |   By pierrelondon

    Version: Apple Safari 5.1

    Pros

no pros if you are still on Leopard....

    Cons

    where do I start?
form auto-fill has become sophisticated... and useless. it sticks to the screen and makes you crash
    it crashes constantly
and has no added benefit to Leopard users

    Summary

Apple since Iphone 4 has become complacent, negligent and arrogant with its users... all the reasons why people switched from Windows to Apple before...
the software is useless, if you are on Leopard, SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE AND DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS PIECE OF JUNK
