Except for internal audio not being cut off by plugging in an external audio device Windows XP using boot camp works really great. For a beta this is awsome!

"Mostly working but still some glitches"

Version: Apple Boot Camp Support Software 1.1

    Summary

Windows is running well on my Mac Pro.

The only issues I have encountered with this version of Boot Camp thus far:

    - Eject seems to eject the CD tray but not close it.
    - Sound from the internal speakers are correctly cut out when audio jacks are inserted into the headphone jack on the front of the machine. Internal speaker audio is incorrectly NOT cut out when audio jacks are inserted into the analog audio out on the back of the machine.

    "MS Windows XP Pro UPDATE"

    July 11, 2006  |   By Phoenix DownUnder

Version: Apple Boot Camp Support Software 1.0.2 Beta

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The MS Windows XP Pro UPDATE version DOES work but you must have a USB mounted drive that contains say an old full version of Windows98 or equiv. And the XP SP2 Update version proceeds perfectly. I used a usb-ide adapter with a Pioneer 109D drive containing a full version of Windows98 plugged into a (black) macBook. Worked a treat.

Boot camp is great but Parallels is better and more convenient. No rebooting or partitioning necessary. Windows in full screen mode runs in a separate (fold around) screen. Brilliant.

Still worth experimenting with bootcamp - would be convenient to be able to have multiple partitions and a format/s option for testing!!! (FreeBSD etc...)

For the record I alas own legal copies of both a full version of XP as well as an upgrade version of XP. Also after running and ACTIVATING the full version of XP under bootcamp, the activation worked perfectly when I reactivated it again under Parallels.

This version vixes various device driver issues from what I can tell.

There is now only one device in device manager that is not detected properly (ir reciever for the remote)

The built in iSight camera no longer gives a blue screen but now says video not available.

... how well this beta works. Really awesome. Just wish Apple would let us know if the new beta releases can be installed over the previous without having to wipe the windows partition. Got to back up that Far Cry save.

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm not super quick on the uptake when it comes to Windows PC tech - but in this case - it was so easy to install even I could do it. I only use my computer for games occasionally - booting in Windows is a nice feature. It runs much faster than my wife's recent Dell so I'm really pleased. Thanks Apple!

    "Badly needed for some time"

Version: Apple Boot Camp Support Software 1.0 Beta 1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

I installed Boot Camp and Win XP on a 2 GHZ iMac â?? I couldnâ??t be happier with the results. The few stock analysis programs (Win only) that I depend on run very well. Internet access is DSL through Airport and this wasnâ??t too hard to get working on the Windows side. Printing by way of the Airport hub is another matter. I never managed to get that working in XP but Iâ??m far from finished trying. The stability of XP using Boot Camp has been excellent and is my biggest concern for any mixed environment like this. I checked the speed of XP using MS Flight Simulator and it seemed to run fine. Overall, I would rate Boot Camp as an excellent first attempt at making possible limited Windows functionality.

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Despite assurances to the contrary, my Apple Pro Wireless keyboard and Kensington Bluetooth mouse worked just fine under Windows XP on my MacBook Pro 1.8GHz, even in the DOS installer and even thru reboots, until i installed the Apple Bluetooth driver. After installing the Apple drivers, I had to re-pair the mouse and keyboard with Windows, but they both continue to work. They even remain paired when changing operating systems back to MacOS X. Overall I'm very impressed.

    "Holy *****!!!!!!!!!!"

Version: Apple Boot Camp Support Software 1.0 Beta 1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Holy *****!!!!, I went and downloaded America's Army. Played a game online. Jacked up the video settings to highest possible in the preferences, world, detail, etc. Smooth as a baby's ass-I have NEVER seen graphics like this in a game on a Mac, ever. Going to go out and buy me an external drive for this mac just for games- I am totally blown away! Un-Freakin Believable!! All you Whiners saying that this is bad, no development, etc. (this makes Apple and OSX a REAL player now) do not get it. I do not have to wait for Mac games to catch up-been waiting for over 20 years now. Finally can the superior hardware, dual core MacBook Pro, 2Ghz, 256 vram, etc. Games on my mac, what a concept. Figure using XP as a gaming tool is worth all the complaints. Using OSX to do everything else I want to use a computer for completes the balance. All I can say is WOW. I can finally play the games I have wanted to. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    "It works...be not entirely."

    Summary

I've installed it on 3 Mac Intel Systems. I ADVISED people to boot from you Install disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utilities before you start the install.

Otherwise...it worked as advertized UNTIL I tried to run the Windows accessory REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION to connect to our Win2003 Servers. No luck. Just will not connect. If that doesn't work then definately there will be other Windows problems.
