"WARNING: contains browser hijacker, Rocket find"

    July 15, 2014  |   By Seeker-451

    Version: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0

    Pros

Would like to be able to find the positive, but it has put up a flurry of pop-ups preventing any analysis.

    Cons

Hijacks your browser. Rocket Browser! (Yeah, heh heh heh!) Forces Rocket Find (Some actually list this as a virus) . Use web search to find how to uninstall Rocket Find. The Rocket Find may simply be a "feature" added by CNET. (thanks guys!)

    Summary

FUN FUN FUN. Made me some money completely removing all the browser hijacker and spyware files for PC clients. Apache OpenOffice is great for business ;)

"It's okay. Not too sure of it's future!"

    May 28, 2014  |   By pickycustomer

    Version: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0

    Pros

    Not enough for me.

    Cons

    See summary below.

    Summary

At one time I relied on Apache OpenOffice (AOO). Not anymore. AOO has stability issues, it was continually crashing. I tried Kingsoft Office Free (KSOF)wasn't sure about it either. It's from China. I wasn't convinced there was "not" spyware included. I tried LibreOffice (LO)and have stuck with it. LO can use the "code" from AOO but the reverse cannot be done. LibreOffice has yet to crash on me while AOO was constantly crashing. One good thing I can say about AOO is that it uses less HDD space than LO.
But, again LO is much more stable. Both AOO and LO needs Java Runtime Environment to be fully functional. The Document Foundation (the people who releases/creates LibreOffice) are working out the Java dependency. The average user will not see the need for JRE. However "power users" will need JRE. Personally I don't since I'm an average user and not a power user.

I wish I could recommend Apache OpenOffice, but I can't. The stability issue and the knowledge that AOO is lacking in its development base (most of the top tier went to LibreOffice) I
don't have much faith in Apache OpenOffice. No, I'm not a fanboy.
I'm just a user who wants a quality product, even if it's free.

Please don't get me wrong Apache OpenOffice is a good alternative to Microsoft Office. For those who rely on AOO I hope Apache gives the developmental stability OpenOffice deserves. I just got tired of living with multiple crashes while using AOO. I did a lot of research before deciding to switch to LibreOffice. The result of my research showed most experts gave the edge to LibreOffice. If anyone who uses AOO without issues, more power to you. To each their own. And mine is LibreOffice.
