"Product sucks"
Version: Anvil Studio 2011.06.15
Pros
Every not, every beat, every time I tried to do anything, the program said I'd committed 'violations' there are no "pros" to this and it is not user friendly
Cons
Wouldn't allow any notes played in succession
Summary
don't bother its not worth the aggravation and didn't deserve the one star I gave it.

"Incredible"
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.11.08
Pros
Virtual instruments
Cons
I cannot find anything in your software to be conned about
Summary
I lost my home, all my stuff, my computers (5) all my instruments and recording studio in a fire. I had no Insurance. I was left with nothing. I met a man on the streets of Saint Vincent and he having been a victim of disasters himself asked me what would help me... and I answered "a computer" He took me to the nearest computer sales room and bought me an HP laptop..Look at that..Then I went To CNET and began looking for music production software, and I came upon your download...I now can begin to create my songs again without even a roof over my head....Music is my life and I am learning how to use your software and I know I will make a masterpiece because you have put this superb tool at our disposal. Thank you Anvil Studio.I am Lancelot Da Vincy Chapman President of C.U.A.B.A Enterprises and a Publisher Member of The Performing Rights Society

"Very Happy WIth it"
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.11.08
Pros
I've used it for 2 years now. I know nothing about music or midi. Anvil has helped me compose songs that sound very good. For the price, I don'tnthink it can be beat.
Cons
Just like other freeware, you have to pay to eliminate the limitations but that's how freeware works. I have gotten by pretty well within the limitations, but will probably buy into something down the road.
Summary
It is written for people who know music terms. I'm still learning and Anvil has been a great help. If they could make instructions for a non-music person that would help me.

"Need to upgrade for audio files longer than a minute?"
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.11.08
Pros
It installed okay. I did not try it long enough yet to know much about it.
Cons
Limitation to 1 minute of music, but I do not know the details. You will need to upgrade for longer songs.
Summary
The installer is/looks a little unusual, but that is not a big deal. I tried to open a wav file, but no files were listed. The same for MP3 files. I change the file types to "All files" and I was able to see them. It defaults to song files. I tried to then open the wav file and I got a message that says that to open a file longer than a minute I would have to download an accessory. You will need to purchase an upgrade. I do not know if song files are usually shorter than a minute. I did not like the limitation. I am not into music too much to know, but it seems like this limitation makes the program very limited. 1 minute of music seems very little to me, but maybe they are referring to something else.

"Amazing powerful and diverse for beginners and experts"
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.11.08
Pros
If you are serious about music reading, theory then just download it, you can import midi song files you find on internet and it will transcribe it into notes, tab and print them off. Or you can compose your own from scratch
Cons
None. Perfect
Summary
Its looks basic, but don't be fooled. Its so powerful and is a must for any music student young or old, regardless of ability. If you just want a music program to record or sampling or sequencing, find something else. This is a music students or musicians tool that helps you understand music, compose music with real music theory. I cant not state enough that if you are studying music, you need this!
Don't be a berk, its free! -
"It's Great For Beginners."
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.11.08
Pros
This is a great DAW for newbs who want to explore digital recording.
The VST plugins(FX) are good and the CPU overall is pretty easy on your processor. There's midi notation, step recording and a lot of other stuff to make this a valuable tool.Cons
The interface is a little boring and generic but what do you want for free?
Summary
SoIf you're thinking about getting a professional DAW setup like Logic,Sonar or Live which have HUGE learning curves,
Perhaps get your feet wet with this program before you do and it will teach you some of the basics of recording at home. -
"As freeware, only really useful for MIDI."
Version: Anvil Studio 2009.10.07
Pros
A very competent MIDI editor.
Cons
Analog recordings are limited to 60 seconds.
Summary
As already noted, analog recordings are limited to 60 seconds. MIDI recordings may be longer, but this is only apparent when the program is actually used. The instructions state, "The free version of Anvil Studio limits you to a single audio track, that can last no longer than 1 minute." It is easy to infer that this limitation applies to MIDI files as well.
