If it were not for the invasive advertsing it would be an excellent antivirus program.

Most times there is an update eg virus signature etc there is an in your face advertising banner that is in front of any job you are doing. This is not able to be removed as there are no settings to circumvent. When I mentioned it on their forum they removed my message! Avast IMHO is a better program.

I decided to try AntiVir after seeing a sidebar in PC Magazine showing the detection ratings of several AV apps. AntiVir was third on the list, the highest of any free program. However, the best part about AntiVir is its ability to coexist with other AV programs. AntiVir personal does not scan your email, but you can have both AntiVir and AVG on your system without hurting performance so I was able to keep AVG for email scanning.
Cons
Window pops up after each update asking you to buy the pro version. Personal version does not scan email.

Pros
German engineering, good interface, good scanning, scores high in testing. I was using AVG free but went to this after seeing test results of both programs. While I liked AVG, I like the better protection of this program.
Cons
Slow connection and updating connection speed. Pops up ad after updating.

"Could not get rid of a trojan!!!!!!!!"

I read the various user reviews on Avg, Avast and Avira. After reading quite a few reviews, I decided that Avira was the best for me due to it's low drain on system resources, as I have an older computer.
I installed it and immediately it found the tojan TR/Crypt.NSPM.Gen ou7viewer.dll. The problem was no matter what action I took, quarantine, repair, delete, ignore or whatever, it would not go away. The virus warning window just kept popping up with this trojan in it. So I uninstalled and reinstalled it with the exact same result. It could not get rid of the trojan!!!!
So I uninstalled it again, installed Avast, while doing the initial boot scan it caught the very same trojan and eliminated it as well as several others that a scan by Norton 360 missed earlier in the day. Norton is gone too, still a resource hog in my opinion, slowed my computer way down.
So I was very impressed so far with Avast and sorely disappointed in Avira!!!!!!

I've used Avast and AVG and was let down by them in that past, by allowing my PC to get infected. As happened at the weekend!
I was told about AntiVir and installed it. AntiVir detected a virus on one of my backup DVD's which Avast did not when I made the backup.
So Avira's AntiVir gets a full 5 Stars from me.
Cons
I had some trouble getting the database to update at first. Otherwise trouble free so far.

Pros
This antivirus found and killed viruses that none of the others found. Detection rates are wonderful does not slow your system down and I trust it try it you will love it to.
Cons
No e-mail protection but for free Ill get over it.
