    "still a mystery how it was installed"

    Cons

    unknown cons, but noticed while uninstalling that the dll had hooked on to 5 other apps, including the Google Pinyin Network Daemon, Streetsolkshim.exe (MS Mappoint), and can't remember the others.
    Malwarebytes, Spybot, Symantec, Ad-aware didn't detect anything.
