"If you own a Dual Mac G5, Run Away!"
Version: Anime Studio 5.5
Pros
In the beginning, Ii looks like a cool program, you do a couple of quick animations and then you are hooked, easy to use, nice graphics editing, yeah, ok.
Cons
Then when you try to export, it crashes, crashes, crashes. Not in a way that you can test cause and effect, but in a maddeningly arbitrary way. Lost Marble (the forum) helpfully suggests that you upgrade to the Pro version for another $150. Mac owners who post there are ignored. This problem has existed at least for a year because that's how long I've been waiting for them to fix it. Upgrading to AS 5.5 does not help.
Prepare to be enraged.

"One of the best animation programs ever."
Version: Anime Studio 5.5
Pros
This program is one of the best i've ever seen, and the Bone Rigging system is working, the keyframe setup is really awesome and this is great if you don't have time for Flash or anything like that. I must buy as a result.
Cons
Takes some time to get used to.

"the most fun i've had in a long time!"
Version: Anime Studio 5.5
Pros
Lots of tutorials helped me start animating right away. My drawing still sucks, but i'm working on that. It's hella fun to animate my friends faces on cartoon bodies.
Cons

"Excellent cartoon animation suite"
Version: Anime Studio 5.5
Pros
I have the Professional verion of this product and have used it since before it became Anime Studio. It has an excellent set of tools, many of which are not even found on more expensive products.
Reasons I love it ....
- In addition to layer and point animation it has a 2.5D IK bone animation system.
- It has a 2D particle system.
- It allows import of 3D objects in obj format.
- It has a real 3D camera allowing for some great angles and moves that couldn't be easily done in a 2D system.
- It allows custom tool creation using the lua scripting language; in fact the official features listed on the product page are multiplied many times over by some fantastic custom scripts created by professional and hobbyist users.
- It has a fanatically cool, creative and friendly group of users who are glad to share tips and help solve problems.
My experience is with the Pro version, this version has a slightly different feature set so you'll want to compare or drop into the forum and ask.
Cons
My only wish would be for some more integration with Flash. Some stuff cannot be export - like bone animation simply because Flash doesn't have a bones system. Some exports fine but if they improve this/integrate it more I think everyone using Flash will also use Anime Studio as the combination would me unbelievable.
