"Hacker took control of my PC right after I started it"

    July 2, 2014  |   By Tony4554

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

If you are not connected to the internet it works ok.
If you are connected to the internet, want Hackers in YOUR pc and face financial woes then this program will do it.

    Cons

IT IS NOT SAFE!!! I did not give anyone permission to take over control of my computer but they DID right after I installed and started the program. There are many cases of MALICIOUS use with this software.

    Summary

I usually use TeamViewer but I downloaded the file from their site to try it as a test for the local network.
We received a call from a person saying they were from Microsoft Windows support. I played along. He said my installed TeamViewer was corrupt. Note: That was because I intentionally gave him the incorrect password.
He said that I needed to use Ammyy-Admin. At that point I ended the phone call.

I double clicked the executable after scanning it with Norton antivirus 360 and MalwareBytes which said Ammyy-Admin was ok. After this experience I do not know how to trust security scanning software.

The program opened a window displaying my ID for my PC.
The FUN then began. My mouse pointer started going around the monitor without me touching it. Then they opened the run window and opened up a text file. Then they started to write "Are you ther ?" I tried to close it and they kept moving the mouse but being quick I was I got the text file closed. Then they opened up a command window and tried to type commands. At that point I disconnected the Network cable and powered the pc off.

I restarted the PC and removed the software from the PC. I scanned the PC with AntiVirus and Malwarebytes. The PC checked out clean. I scanned the Registry for any entries and there were none. I will NEVER EVER use Ammyy-Admin AGAIN!!!

    Updated on Jul 3, 2014

UPDATE: I went to the second computer to remove the Ammyy-Admin which would communicate with the first computer. These scam artists that accessed our computers put TeamViewer on the second pc that did NOT have TeamViewer on it. I guess that they figured they can do more with TeamViewer than Ammyy-Admin will let them do remotely. They were able to log into our computers without me giving them the ID or password so I am assumming that they manipulated the binary file and coded it to use their credentials without us having to tell them the ID or password. Use EXTREME CAUTION if you try this software!!

    "Works good for us."

    June 19, 2014  |   By Ray Rip

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

Easy for customers to download and install. However, we put in a password, then code signed it, then created a code signed install. The hackers would have to know the password to even ask a client to do anything... so it's imperative you add a password to Ammyy. It's on their website how to do it.

    Cons

If you don't add a password, your clients could get hacked. We started with no password and while we were on the clients computer, we could see someone asking for access. Of course we said no.. that's when we contacted Ammyy and they told us about the password.

    Summary

Great for tech support. Just because others use it for bad purposes doesn't mean the software is bad.

    "Dangerous!"

    January 22, 2014  |   By MobilePC

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

small, quick install (quicker uninstall on my part)

    Cons

Literally 5 seconds after my test install completed I got an "operator # xxxxx" is trying to connect" message. With one hand in the router power cable I clicked "accept" and BAM my mouse is moving. Yes, I gave control to the unknown user to see if it really was a real person - it absolutely was. I uninstalled Ammyy before powering up the router.

    Summary

Hackers / thieves either have access to the AMMYY server to recognize a new connection that fast or the product is made by the same. Not safe if they know the user # it's not that hard to hack the passwords.

"Good product, but Download.com installer adds spyware!"

    May 29, 2013  |   By linuxlista

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

The software works good. Just don't get it from download.com!

    Cons

It added a bunch of game/spyware toolbars to IE without permission. So I had to spend time disabling them.

I had a pristine Windows installation before this.

    Grr.

    Summary

The new Download.com installer adds spyware! Don't use it.

I downloaded the latest from the vendor and it was clean.

"Worthwhile for private use but potential security risk"

    February 28, 2013  |   By TheRadMan

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

Excellent and worked on port 443 quite well. (v3.1 reviewed)
The ACCESS can be limited by password to "ANY" inbound session.
    Its small and lite and portable- just one executable;
very Russian in compact pragmatic practicality.
    zero config

    Cons

sniffer traffic session indicates no security threats

The UTILITY does NOT LOG ID,
nor does it disclose the ID of the caller to the utility.
So if you are a recipient of a "support call" using this tool,
you wont be able to *authenticate* nor trace that caller.
    In addition
    NEVER "INSTALL SERVICE"
ADD A PASSWORD TO ACCESS PERMISSIONS UNDER ID "ANY" (only)
It has a bad reputation for being a scammer tool,
but its not the tool that is bad,
just the people using it to scam other people.

    Summary

    This Utility is quite fast and very compact;
    a brilliant alternative to VNC.
It is also unsecured and has potential security issues.

"!!!BEWARE OF ANYBODY THAT ASKS YOU TO INSTALL AMMYY!!!"

    December 20, 2012  |   By authorisedus

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

None that I know of - there are better software programmes out there. And I am PC repair technician.

    Cons

!!!THIS PROGRAMME IS USED BY SCAM ARTISTS!!!

    Summary

WHILE THE WRITERS OF THIS PROGRAMME MAY BE LEGIT, IT IS LARGELY USED BY SCAMMERS WHO CALL YOU UP (USUALLY FROM INDIA) AND TELL YOU THAT YOUR COMPUTER IS MALFUNCTIONING, AND THEY SAY TO FIX IT YOU NEED TO RUN A PROGRAMME FROM WWW.AMMYY.COM. DO NOT DO IT!!!!

If you want a legit remote control software package, use TeamViewer - that is what everybody else uses.

"AAMMYY hacked into my friends computer!"

    November 16, 2012  |   By 7243582456458245824

    Version: Ammyy Admin 3.0

    Pros

    1. Small executable.
    2. Ease of use.

    Cons

    1. Hacks into your computer.

    Summary

My friend is now in the process of wiping his harddrive and reinstalling his computer, and I'm about to do the same.

This evening my friend said he was having a problem with disk space on his computer, so I looked around the web and found AMMYY and decided to try it. Once I installed it I noticed I was connecting to the AMMYY router, but decided it wasn't a big security risk.

My friend ran his, and immediately a dialog box he couldn't quite explain or remember asked him something, and he clicked yes. Immediately after that, a Teamviewer executable appeared on my friend's desktop and Norton antivirus was scanning it.

I received the ID code from my friend and tried to log on. I received a message saying that there had already been a connection to that ID!

Then suddenly someone began typing into the PRIVATE AND ENCRYPTED chat window we were using "scam scam scam scam scam" and calling me a "motherf____r!" I asked this person who they were, but I received more abuse.

Obviously we both logged off and picked up the phone.

Take the negative reviews of this software SERIOUSLY. I saw them and laughed about it. Unless you like reinstalling your computer, don't use AMMYY!

I can't quite figure out what the meaning of all this is, but I suspect the devs of AMMYY use their software to watch people, and maybe scam people themselves. Either that, some hackers control the server to watch for targets and connect to them ASAP after they login. But why they would attack me with "scam scam scam" I have no idea. If I was a hacker, I would just keep my mouth shut.

If you like having your privacy destroyed and the security of your machine put seriously into question, then use AMMYY.

    Updated on Nov 16, 2012

Just so you understand: Somebody accessed my computer illiterate friend's computer and tried to install Teamviewer, then attacked me via a private chat window my friend and I were using to chat.
