Amazon Cloud Player allows you to take your music with you wherever you go, whether you download it to your device or not. Amazon's app rates high for a number of reasons, from the intuitive, quick-loading interface to the recognition that this is your music and you want to play it your way.

You have two options when loading Amazon Cloud Player for the first time--either log in to your Amazon Cloud Player account (where all of your purchased Amazon MP3s will be ready to play) or play music already on your iPad in your Music library. After you log in, your music will populate onscreen and you can select any song to start playing. While the iPad and iPhone have different interfaces, the mechanics are roughly the same as most music players. Swipe to change songs. Hold the album cover to save it to a playlist. Download a song from the cloud to your device with the tap of a button. Search functions are fast, genre splits are accurate, and you can view songs by cloud or device.

In short, Amazon Cloud Player is a very good app that builds on the strong Amazon library of digital apps to provide a fantastic experience for playing, downloading, and annotating your music. If you have an Amazon account and download music through it, this is a must-have app.

"Awful. Amazon is trying to be itunes."

March 23, 2014  |  By ssremington

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.3.2

Pros

On the rare occasions it works, you can export purchases directly into itunes

Cons

Difficult and sometimes impossible to download the music you paid for
Makes it difficult to find your purchased music
Prone to crashing
Accesses your computer's music
Clunky 90s look
You can no longer use amazon mp3 downloader

Summary

Makes me hesitant to purchase mp3s from amazon until many bugs are worked out and an option is given to bypass and just download

"Useful to store your music. Useless for playing music"

February 17, 2014  |  By redmocha2

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.3.2

Pros

Can upload tons of music online which is *technically* available in the cloud
Works with Sonos

Cons

Does not mirror any of iTunes functionality
Cannot upload iTunes playlists (they need to be created using a TERRIBLE interface created by Amazon)
No Genius / Pandora / etc. smart playlist functionality
Upload process is a nightmare. No duplicates, but lots of missing music and terrible mapping of cover art
Amazon technical support is helpful, but not effective. They'll smile and tell you they're looking into it but will not be effective in actually helping

Summary

See the cons. If you have an option, use Google Play or Apple.

"Slow, clunky, and now forced on us"

January 05, 2014  |  By DDiceRC

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.3.2

Pros

Probably a good app if you have a tablet

Cons

Loads slowly on my PC- takes forever on my netbook
Clunky, hard-to-navigate interface
Now no option to use the online version-you have to have the offline app to download your music from Amazon

Summary

Amazon appears to be attempting to be an alternate iTunes (which I don't like-that's why I've used Amazon), and does it poorly.

"bizarre and inconvenient design choices"

November 14, 2013  |  By techuser02139

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.2

Pros

seems to load my library (of three whole songs) fast

Cons

refuses to allow me to download my music without installing the offline version. what the heck. incredibly frustrating. and it's not like their software is compatible with all operating systems-- what if i was on 10.5 and had no way to download my music at all? this is moronic

Summary

horrible

"Amazon Music finds a new way to turn away customers"

September 10, 2013  |  By mac1626

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.2

Pros

Interface looks nice. Usability for small collections is probably good. Program doesn't crash.

Cons

I have a large collection, but tried to upload just over 4100 songs, and even with buying extra cloud space, the functionality of the program seems to be overwhelmed by the number of songs. Sync between cloud and computer gets buggy. Auto download of new songs fails frequently. No back button. Several steps to see latest purchases. Can't use on most of my devices, but have no problem with cloud music utilizing google.

Summary

Amazon seems to have stopped putting forth much attention to detail with their mp3 programs. It's getting more like Henry Ford's Model A (you can have any color you want as long as its black). If it works for you great, if not, too bad.

"Great solution for my 20,000 song collections"

August 28, 2013  |  By djh14223

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.2

Pros

It's a matching service, which means it scans your collection and Amazon purchases and plays high-quality recordings directly from Amazon. You can also play songs off your own computer.

Cons

Sometimes takes a few minutes to sync the collection. A high-speed internet connection is very helpful.

Summary

It's not perfect, but it's by far the best tool I've ever used for a large music collection.

"Great LOOKING app.. can't wait for the next version.."

August 28, 2013  |  By 172pilotsteve

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.2

Pros

Nice player, love to be able to stream everything from cloud - having access to whole collection without having to have it all local. Worked GREAT while my collection was small.

Cons

First, regarding functionality - I want to be able to stream to an Airport Express, and I don't seem to be able to do so..

Second, in regard to bugs..
I signed up when I bought a new CD on Amazon, and was happy, even as I loaded a few thousand of my local songs into the cloud, but somewhere around the 20000 song mark, my iphone app stopped working. It seems to have choked on the sheer number of songs. it's not trying to download them, but I assume it's trying to download an index or something, and isn't working. It has been several days since I've even been able to play the few songs I DO have locally downloaded.

Summary

Will probably be good, if they can handle the number of songs they advertise, but so far, if you have a substantial collection, I wouldn't count on it.. Definitely worth a try for Amazon's FREE cloud service level..

"If it's so good why force customers into registering"

July 14, 2013  |  By elainekelaine

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.1.0

Pros

I bought some music for the first time from Amazon, you can't just download the mp3's, said amazon, you have to download their cloud player, a software I have NO INTEREST IN, but, oh well, if it will get me my music, fine. After download & install I have to create an account. When I click the link to create the account I am taken to MY amazon account and I am already logged in and there is no redirect to their stupid cloud player. I do this several times with the same results. I have now spent the better part of an hour just trying to figure out how the hell to access the music I bought.

Finally, I am too frustrated to even care and call amazon to get a refund. In my search I found a website that will sell the same music in a regular mp3 download-and no refund yet. I hate that amazon strong arms it's customers into using their new stupid revenue model. I'll never buy music from amazon again.

Cons

manipulates customers into registering for needless software and then can't get the registration process right. Amazon is doing well enough to TEST YOUR STUPID PROCESS and GET IT RIGHT before making me waste my time. Rude rude rude.

"Started out well, now I keep getting virus messages."

June 02, 2013  |  By deb749

 |  Version: Amazon Cloud Player 2.0

Pros

I love the ease with which I can get music--just type in a title and boom! There it is!

Cons

Lately, whenever I go to the desktop app, my Kaspersky antivirus flashes the message, "PDM.Trojan. WIN32 Generic" then puts the bug in quarantine. This makes the nervous, so I'll considering going back to the basic MP3 player. Anyone else having this problem?
