Version: Amazing Slow Downer for Windows 2.68
Pros: This seems to be a very nice and simple tool to both slow down AND change the pitch of songs that you have. Its sound is pretty smooth and not jumpy or bumpy like some of the other tempo/pitch changers I looked into. (AV Music Morpher Basic, Riffster Lite) Both of these gave me jumpy/bumpy sound when I slowed down music. And they only allowed me to change the tempo OR the pitch, not both at the same time. (At least the trial versions did that.) I'm using the ASD to slow down and lower the pitch of play-along CD's that I have. I've even recorded along with it (singing) and the sound quality is relatively convincing. (Meaning it almost sounds like the real original thing.) This program is also much cheaper than the hardware you can buy from Alesis, Tascam, or SuperScope that have the same functions of tempo and pitch change. Diddo more expensive recording software programs that offer "time expansion / time compression" features. Lastly, the program seems fairly stable, it doesn't take up too much memory, and seems to be put out by a decent fellow. I think it's worth the price, though it does now cost $45, not $40. PS-It allows you to save the altered music in WAV format, so you can open it easily in any recording software that you have. Neat. Also has karoake feature to cut out vocals, but with other similar programs, you loose a significant part of the rest of the music and the vocals aren't completely gone. Definitely worth a try and probably a buy for many people wanting to have something to help them practice with. I also plan on using it as a transcriber assistance program for my dictations.
Cons: Ultimately is not a real band playing at the tempo or pitch that you like, but pretty close. (This is the only reason I'm not giving it five stars. Though this factor may be due more to the natural features of sound, and less to do with this particular program.)Playing straight from a CD drive is a bit catchy at times. Burning the CD into MP3 format helps this significantly. Stereo format sounds a bit funny, so you may be better off not checking that box.
