"Good enough program, deceptive "freeware" listing"

    September 29, 2008  |   By gregkaba

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

Simple interface, functions as expected (until you transfer too many files)

    Cons

I used this to sync my folder of pictures twice and the third time, it gave me a warning: "Measurements indicate usage in excess of typical personal requirements. Please consider obtaining the Pro version of Allway Sync. "

    Very deceptive.

    Summary

Would be more likely to buy a program that had honest policies

"Good software but should be "Free to Try", not "Free""

    September 26, 2007  |   By PromisedPlanet

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

Software works well; does a good job of noticing small changes in large amounts of data, quickly, and synchronizing those changes. Good, intuitive interface.

    Cons

This software should be categorized as "Free to Try", not "Free". After a short amount of time, the software will report that you have "exceeded typical usage requirements", and then allow you to use it for free for a shorter period of time after that, before requiring that you purchase a license.

I don't know what the "typical usage" is, but I got this message after about a week of syncing a folder containing maybe 1000 files, only once a day.

    "Disappointing"

    September 16, 2007  |   By DownloadCom2007

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

The product works as promised basically allowing for backups to occur.

    Cons

The product is very limited. If you are backing up say 100GB daily, it will bomb out requesting you purchase a licence key. Also the user interface isn't as easy and logical as it could be. For example figuring out how to add an extra operation wasn't as easy as it could have been.

Another problem with the application is how it handles errors. If you have a long path name which won't fit to the system you are copying it to, it throws up an error. The problem is it is very difficult to fix the errors. There are other issues too, in particular when files become corrupt on one system and can propergate to the backup. Again like error handling, corrupt backups are poorly handled and difficult to fix.

Another issue that has been raised by our IT department is that is only available on a windows platform.

Overall, I feel that at first look the application looks good, however on closer examination under real workplace conditions, it lacks error handling, in an elegent manner, is very limited in the free version and would be better labled as trialware.

"It says it's free, but it is NOT!"

    July 16, 2007  |   By georgefischhof

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Cons

It says it's free, but it is NOT!

After synchronizing some files, it want me to pay for it.

Can not handle change of folder names. Instead deletes folder, and copies with the new name.

"We might have to "sink" this one"

    July 16, 2007  |   By robcboff

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

Probably the only good thing is that it's free. And it can do file sync'ing... of a sort. It has everything a program should have - a customisable UI, and advanced options and rules for synchronisation. That's about it.

    Cons

The main interface is awful. When you compare each side, you have to use a button to see the rest of the list, instead of a scroller. Times New Roman looks terrible as well. I was also expecting FTP support but apparently not. The pro version doesn't upgrade new features, it just lets businesses use it commercially. A much better program is Beyond Compare - that beats Allway in "all ways".

    "Interface is not intuitive"

    June 17, 2007  |   By tobydaly

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

That it has the ability to syncronize between 2 PCs.

    Cons

The interface takes way too much time to get used to. No way to EASILY exclude files and folders. Should have a "Browse" button.

    "crippleware"

    April 23, 2007  |   By Rickromig

    Version: Allway Sync 5.5.8

    Pros

The program works great as long as you don't synchronize too many files.

    Cons

Nowhere on their web site do they tell you the threshold where you become a "heavy" user and have to purchase to continue using. If they'd been upfront about it, I might have purchased it.
