Version: Alibre Design Xpress 11
"Excellent CAD Software for Free"
Pros: I can't believe this free software is parametric solid modeler. You can't find it, I mean parametric modeler, anywhere for free. This type of software is known to be expensive and not made for home use or hobby.
Cons: There are some key features and workspaces in the software that are grey out or not available, such as shelling feature and 2-D drawing/detailing. They are reserved for paid package.
Summary: I'm a professional CAD designer, using several parametric and sophisticate CAD/CAM/CAE software for over 25 years. I wished to have an affordable parametric software for my home use...until Alibre Xpress came up in my google search. I was delighted and tried it out. To correct the above comments, Alibre do offer free Xpress for you to keep for life, but when you sign up for one, you get 30 days free trial Professional Design. After 30 days, if you do not want to purchase it, which is still unbelieve cheap, you can downgrade to Xpress Design and keep it for free for life.
I designed a couple of products thru Xpress Design and I like it a lot, but I have to have a drawing features to detail the parts for the manufacturers. So I went ahead and purchased it, upgraded my Xpress Design to Standard Design. I got all the stuffs I need and I am happy with my Alibre product.
