Version: Alibre Design Xpress 11
"It's free and does 3d that's about it"
Pros: free, 3d parametric
Cons: Sketching is horrendous, nothing is positioned so that you can easily create sketches, creating sketch mates is just painful, Can't add dimensions to splines, View shaded with visible edges completely ignores me and shows only the shaded model.
Summary: It's free but if you really want to do 3D CAD I'd go with Solidworks in a heartbeat. Overall after using Solidworks, Alibre just does nothing to help you efficiently create models, you may have to pay more for features in Solidworks but it is well worth it. Things like splitting, wrapping and just plain fully defining a sketch are difficult if not impossible in ALibre, but in Solidworks can be down with one click. Also the user communtiy is much larger and you can quickly find help with any issue you might have in Solidworks, with Alibre good luck. Tried calling them and they just wanted to sell be some other version. I sure have no interest in buying some other version when they have no interest in helping me. Generally using Alibre is just painful, the user interface is as bland as a windows 98, and the pain just continues into everything else.
