"free is not a 15 day trial"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 2.0.1.2033
Pros
none, wish I did not have to use it.
Cons
hard to force it to mount a proprietary .mdf
Summary
only a moron would use this to change a .iso file to a .mdf file and force us to use this to work with it. This is why we need common formats, not proprietary BS.

"just what I needed"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 2.0.1.2033
Pros
It does exactly what it's supposed to do, without any problems. I just wanted a program that I didn't have to find my disk every time I wanted to play a game. This is perfect. I also had to download YASU to cloak the virtual drive.
Cons
None that I know of.

"Excellent free program (not the trial version)"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 2.0.1.2033
Pros
Excellent program for free. Works for everything I have.
Cons
Nothing except the REAL free edition is limited to 6 drives
Summary
This is the best drive emulation program available, however the version available here on Cnet IS NOT the free edition... it's a TRIAL version. For the REAL free edition, download it here: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_52__Free_Edition

"Why are you charging now?"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 2.0.1.2033
Pros
Previous version was free.
Cons
Previous version was completely free, this is a Trial. Just find version 1.9.x.x and it is free. I reformatted my HD and reinstalled this, and WHAM, they got me. I lost my free version. Use DAEMON tools lite edition for now.

"This isn't Alcohol 52% FE, this is Alcohol 52% Trial."
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 2.0.0.1331
Pros
This is Alcohol 52%, it's just the trial version instead of the free version. I'm surprised CNet doesn't have a way to report this.
Cons
It expires in 25 days (if I remember correctly) instead of continuing to function. Quite frustrating.

"Does not have a 'no' option for install of a toolbar."
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 1.9.5.4
Pros
None..did not try it because of 'unsavory' installation features.
Cons
No refusal option for the install of a toolbar.
Summary
Installation requires a 'no option' install of a toolbar. That sucks! Looking elsewhere..ciao, baby!

"Excellent virtual drive and imaging software"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 1.9.5.4
Pros
First, it's free. Used with ImgBurn it has all features of Alcohol 120 except the limitation of 6 virtual drives.
Cons
6 virtual drive limitation.
Summary
Pretty much the best virtual drive software available and for free! Easy to use gui, works great!

"Works nearly flawlessly"
Version: Alcohol 52% FE 1.9.5.4
Pros
Easy to install and setup. Simple image making wizard. Many virtual drives (more than there are letters in the alphabet). Disc images run smoothly, and supports a variety of formats. Not processor intensive. Works as intended.
Cons
You must find out what kind of protection is on your disc (as far as I know). Alcohol Toolbar. Takes a while to create an image once it starts reading the disc.
Summary
I love this program. It is simple to use but incredibly powerful. I mainly use it to make backups of my computer games. Making an image takes around 40 minutes to an hour on average for my computer, but you can leave it there and do other things, so I don't mind. Only thing is, you have to find out what protection is used on the disc (SafeDisc, SecuROM, etc.), but a Google search will turn it up in less than a minute. I save all my images to a 1 TB external hard drive since game discs take up space. I can let a friend borrow a disc and not have to worry about them being careless with it. Drop it, break it, even microwave it; none of it matters because I've got it on my hard drive.
Just out of curiosity, I tried installing a game using the disc image. Worked just like you'd expect from the real disc. And I can run all of my games without having to take the discs off the shelf, which means before I travel I can just copy the games I want to use to my laptop's internal hard drive and go. No discs to take with me. I've been using for around two years and it's fabulous. Makes me worry less about spending $50 or $60 for a game.
Oh, and it's free and legal. I know people that would use illegal "no cd" patches for games, but I didn't give in to that. I finally found Alcohol 52% and rubbed it in their faces. It's worth $200 or more but free to use for life, and it tells you about updates. I'm helping someone set it up on their laptop, so I dropped in to give a review. I'd recommend to anyone any day for CD backup.
