Need a utility to create and burn backups of your CDs and DVDs? Alcohol 120% can handle just about all of them. Popular for its ripping speeds, it only lacks in the options department--they're a bit thin.
Its wizard-based interface is handy for managing CD images and virtual drives. The program handles most disc image formats, including ISO, Nero, CloneCD, and CDRWIN. Profiles let you save copy settings for audio, game, data, discs. Beyond the wizard, the interface is sparse. Still, the functionality of the application, which should satisfy all users, justifies its price.
Publisher's description
From Alcohol Software :Alcohol 120% can handle the creation of 31 virtual CD and DVD-ROMs, allowing the user to play discs without needing the physical disc. Users can copy CDs and DVDs to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, and DVD+RW discs. The reading speed of a virtual CD-ROM is 200x. It supports normal CD, DVD, and CD RAW subchannel reading methods. The RAW reading method enables users to emulate all CDs. Alcohol 120% supports numerous CD (CD-DA, CD+G, CD-ROM, CD-XA, VideoCD, Photo CD) and DVD (DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio) formats and all current (ATAPI & SCSI) drives. The latest version adds two more profiles to the data type options and includes support for unusually formatted DVD+RW discs formatted by other software.
Version 1.9.5.3823 updated Virtual Drive engine, updated Alcohol Command Launcher and Shell Extension Context Menu to support image files with Unicode file names. Added support for more devices.

Version: Alcohol 120% 1.9.5.3823
"Excellent! Perfect in almost every way."
Pros: The virtual devices are very easy to manage and mix and match. The real prize in this though is how easy and flawless copies of your images or discs come out. I have a picky drive that hates alot of burning software including windows burner on data files. This has never wasted 1 disc and no configuration is even needed for ripping or burning except for Safedisk/SecuROM but it's very simple with a few checkmarks to configure for these. Only software that burns this quality is Nero with some options enabled but this is so much easier than that. Give it a try, you will not be sorry.
Cons: Only can burn images. Rip formats limited(but you can convert easy enough). Like any virtual drive you may need additional free software to run some SecuROM and Safedisk images. Needs good ASPI layer to run well(available for free I recommend Force ASPI).
