    "Inexpensive and effective"

    April 17, 2013  |   By assign1234

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 8.0

    Pros

    Solid firewall protection
Relatively inexpensive to buy with a lifetime license for 3 pc's
Not a resource hog like Norton's by Symantec

    Cons

    None that I could see

    Summary

I have been using this product on all three of my family pc's and its proven very effective. Virus infections are rare and port attacks are picked up and reported. Its a solid product, that easy to install and use.

"Bad sales practice - poor product"

    January 15, 2013  |   By The_Lyppard_Man

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 8.0

    Pros

Attractive product with lots of features.

    Cons

I purchased this product at short notice as according to their website at the time, a lifetime licence had to be purchased before 31st December 2012. So I took a chance and purchased a 3-PC licence. After 31st December, I noticed that the deadline had changed to 31st January 2013, so I could have had much longer to evaluate the product. Had I done so, I would not have purchased a licence as it randomly slowed my PC to a crawl by causing many of my installed programs to start using huge amounts of CPU. I have since uninstalled it and replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials, which has solved the problem. One final sting in the tail though - I have since noted that the company offers no refunds. So in essence, they tricked me to hurry up and purchase a useless piece of software and then don't offer any refund. Buyer beware.

    Summary

Given the sharp selling practice and questionable quality of the product, I would steer well clear of this company's products. You have been warned!

    "Best Firewall Period"

    January 4, 2012  |   By Dani210

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.5.1

    Pros

The firewall software is licensed to other companies such as AVG, Lavasoft, and Novell (full list here: www.agnitum.com/about/partners.php). It shows something when competitors pay to use this software.

Outpost allows me to have complete customization over my firewall settings, as well as control over a vast array of permissions each program has (direct disk access, keylogging, etc). It's also designed specifically to protect your web browser and system files, extremely useful.

In addition, this software comes with Antispyware, able to perform multiple levels of scans on your computer as any other spyware program does, and keeping your computer safe in the background. It blocks ads from webpages (and Skype) and block the transfer of packets with your passwords added to Outpost's list (allowing exceptions across a range of IPs).

In addition, unlike other security software, you can buy a lifetime license (with updates). And they constantly offer varying discounts on their software.

    Cons

This is basically your entire security suite besides the two following components: Antispam (which my email provider handles flawlessly) and Antivirus (which does not come with the firewall, unlike the other reviewer said). For me, I only needed antivirus, which I got free with UnThreat. Since this is just a firewall though, those don't really count as cons because there's other software made by Agnitum with those features.

The only two real downfalls are its lack of a sandbox feature and complexity. When you do run software on your computer with Outpost, your whole computer is pretty much sandboxed by default, because you are prompted for each permission or group of permissions you wish to allow an application (default action can be changed to block/allow + notify). That goes to show how things could be complicated for many users...

    Summary

The way I see it, this is the best firewall softare out there. I know in the past when using my laptop on a public network, it's totally protected me from hacking attempts (through port scanning), shunning any further connections from that IP address for a temporary period. Your computer is entirely protected, even if it doesn't have every feature. Besides, you're still able to fill in those features with other programs.

I'd say it's fast, though I haven't been able to compare other antispyware/firewall software with this one on this PC. It's definitely worth it though, as I purchased a lifetime license for 3 PC's with this. Checks for signature, product, and other updates happen throughout the day in the background. And the company who makes this software has been at it for nearly 15 years now, based in Russia.

I do have to point out once again though that this program has no Antivirus like "busybody" said, hinting at a sign that he didn't try this program at all. As for me, I bought Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro, and I'm extremely pleased with it.

    Updated on Jan 4, 2012

By the way, there should be an update to Outpost soon, 7.5.2. I'll make a new review on it when I get the chance.

    "Awful tech support."

    October 6, 2011  |   By busybody

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.5.1

    Pros

    - Lot's of features.
    - Powerful Firewall (when it remembers its settings and not resets).
    - Suitable for power users (if it only work 100%).
    - USB protection.
    - Easy on resources.
    - Frequent update (which destroyed my settings files).

    Cons

    - Slow slow tech support, no worth paying for a Pro version.
    - If settings are self reset or gone, you are in a pain to "train" the software again.
    - Not for beginners, requires good PC and Internet knowledge.

    Summary

The main difference between Free and Pro version should have been tech support but you not getting any.
You cannot see your previous support tickets, let alone update them if you found something new.
The virus engine is from another company, the only thing is unique is the firewall itself.

If you really want the paid version, download trial, wait until its almost over and get an offer you can't refuse.

    Bottom line:
    Try Free version only.

    "Great Firewall!"

    November 13, 2010  |   By smulla26

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.0.4

    Pros

Blocks questionable ads automatically especially if the firewall is combined with Malwarebytes and free MSE. You will have stable protection even if your running a netbook or another device that requires low system requirements.

    Cons

The problem with the product is you can only buy a lifetime license for the FIrwall Pro and not the Security Suite, but I guess you have to milk money somehow. Also it doesnt have any extra online storage or virus protection like Comodo.

    Summary

I like this product because it has a lifetime license and it is easy use. Too bad it doesnt offer free virus protection. If you want an all in one jack in trade product you have to buy the Security suite and pay for virus protection every year.

There are plenty of options regarding virus eradication software so it is not really a con but few of the advanced functions will require a learning curve especially if you never used a firewall.

"This is the best Firewall avaliable on the market."

    November 8, 2010  |   By killershark731

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.0.4

    Pros

You have to know how to configure this product to get the maximun benefits. You have to have knowledge of all the given information . This product will log all events related to your computer. You have to learn to read the logs .

    Cons

No Cons, this product will only work based on your personal knowledge of how computers work.

    Summary

This product give you information on Dos DDos attacks, you can add ports to block, the event veiwer is comlpete , the logs tell you what is going on or what has happened ,who logged on to computer, what protocal was used, packet size ,the threat detection network rules, and all othersettings on this product lets you customize the programs gor advanced users. I have used other firewalls but there are to many bells, flags, whistles. This product will work on a single home computer or in a commerical application enviroment with many computers. Hackers can not spoof their IP with the product if you know to configure this product. My advise is learn the settings one at a time, along with the event viewer. And use some of the prorams that come with your computer, along with this product, this will show you whats is happing on your computer and who is or what has logged on or tried to logs on and many other computer related events.

    July 23, 2010  |   By trott3r

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.0.1

    Pros

Since KIS7 has reduced ability to do IP ranges with notification Oupost seems to be the only current firewall that allows ranges to be entered manually. It allows the user to be notified so any problems can be fixed.

    Cons

Doesnt seem to get magazine reviews anymore iin the UK
Not figured out how to get notfication on specific port attacks

    "Better than zonealarm pro"

    June 21, 2010  |   By ecslipe

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.0.1

    Pros

This is better than zonealarm has it uses very little resources and it does not slow down your computer like zonealarm pro. Your computer will feel like thats no firewall unlike zonealarm which bogs down your computer. Very good firewall.

    Cons

Maybe it can be even more user friendly. I find that the application advisor is a bit confusing.
