"Good inbound protection, but Annoying."
Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free 2009
Pros
Simple layout of the interface. Good inbound protection
Cons
Outbound protection and the extra protection features are not so great.
Summary
Firstly, the outging protection didn't do what I expected. It keeps generating automatic rules for new applications, no matter what setting I used. I want to deside myself what connects and what not. And not find out later that some program made a connection and starts bothering me about updates. Then I have to look up the automatically created rule in the settings pannel and alter it. Sure it's not a malicious program, but still. Not nice...I would call this leaky.
Secondly, the entertainment protection feature, which can be disabled, doesn't make much sense to me, it's just annoying. Besides, the last time I ever saw anything pop to fullscreen by itself is..pfff 5 years ago...
Thirdly, the registry protection is fairly useless. It kicks in whenever I install something ,so alterations to the registry can be expected. The popup then asks whether or not to allow some code to be entered into the registry..I don't know what that bit of code does exactly, so why ask me.
I had Outpost installed for about two weeks and it made me think "what the hell.." almost every day. It may not be suitable for my kind of computer use, besides it's free, so, I can't really give it one star. -
"it seems okay for me"
Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free 2009
Pros
better than the free windows firewall.
Cons
if you're not really good at computers or something you might have a problem with what to allow or block when the firewall warns you with something. and that's my problem. LOL
Summary
just try it yourself. nothing wrong with trying

""I don't believe it" !!!"
Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free 2009
Pros
VERY light on your system and very little CPU usage. Simple, yet very complete interface and easy configuration.... Bottom line: IT WORKS...
I didn't believe anything could beat the top two (2) free ones (COMODO & ZA)....Boy, was I wrong !!!Cons
I have yet to find any for the free version...
Summary
Over the years, I've tried a good many of the paid (and free) firewalls out there and I'll honestly have to say that this free Vista version of Outpost "ROCKS"...No kidding, it beats the pants off COMODO and ZA, hands down... Give it a try and decide for yourself.... My mind is made up (no more looking around)... Passes the "leak test" without a single blink....
THANKS Agnitum for another GREAT product !!! -
"good good good"

"Great firewall"
Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free 2009
Pros
Runs very smooth, no CPU spikes and has great protection. The interface is very good as well.
Cons
The icon shows a blue shield with a question mark, should be green or something to show it's actually working. It is anyway but still.
Summary
Over all a great firewall and I have no issues with it and would suggest this over others.

"Works Great"
Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free 2009
Pros
For one who is (like me) somewhat PC-challenged...is a pretty easy download/install. Seems to annoy with considerably fewer pop-up warnings than ZoneAlarm Free or Online Armor Free.
Cons
After one week of use...none.
Summary
When I got an email notifying me about the new edition of the firewall I was using (Online Armor Free) (I had switched over to it after the ZoneAlarm firewall started blocking--for some reason--my MSN/Verizon browser) I figured I'd check out matouse. There I found: "Excellent score was achieved by Outpost Firewall Free 2009". The only 2 above it on their list were the $39.95 Online Armor (not the Free one) and the $39 Comodo Security Suite.
