"eliminates registry errors, not create them"

    by sheba94601 on January 10, 2008

Pros: I was hit w/ 8 trojans & the upteen malware, etc from couple of bad torrent downloads. After finally cleaning out my pc w/ the help of a good tech from Trend Micro, I installed & tried CCleaner to clean out my cache & registry which doesn't provide info on whats it's cleaning. Next thing I knew I couldn't open my fav softwares w/ out a bunch of missing files & error windows popping up. CCleaner's backup didn't help, then I remembered reading somewhere on cNET where Advance WindowsCare's restore feature saved someone w/ a similiar problem from an over-aggressive registry cleaner. Sure enough, AWP saved the day! That was the second time their restore feature came thru for me & I've never, EVER had problems after using AWP. I'm not experimenting anymore & just sticking w/ TuneUp Utility & AWP.

Cons: ...the only thing that disturbed me about AWP is that it only had one update in the 6, 7 months I've had it, so how does it keep up on the latest spyware attacks for it's security features? With Trend Micro's new super upgraded 2008 suite I really don't need the security features anymore & definetly don't need Lavasoft's AdAware anymore so I guess I should no longer be disturbed *sigh*

    Summary: null

    Updated on Dec 16, 2008

There is now an update to this light program & it's better than ever with even more features! With the new version ADVANCE SYSTEMCARE FREE 3.0.1 I don't need any other security or utility software on my Windows XP, I just use this and my TrendMicro Security Suite, which is compatible

Sheba, I tend to agree that CCleaner is a little aggressive in it's operation. Unfortunately the Help file is online but it's easy reading and CCleaner also has User Forums where you can spend time reading and get alot of information. I will say that after having done what I just suggested to you, I'm personally still VERY careful with what I allow CCleaner to do. I read the entries it wants to clean to see if I understand what it wants to remove, fix, clean. Also make sure you have the most up to date version and that it's set to create a Retore Point. I always Export my entire Registry before installing or uninstalling any program, but especially before running any program that purports to "fix or clean the Registry" because there just isn't any program that can fix all Registry errors. I use RegEdit and manually search for programs I've uninstalled and always find bits and pieces of them scattered about. Just remember to Export the entire Registry before making any changes.
