Advanced SystemCare

CNET Editors' review

All it takes it a single visit to a compromised Web site to snare a nasty piece of malware or to pick up cookies that track your every browsing move. And there's nothing worse than a computer that is bogged down so much that it impedes your ability to work or play games. Advanced Systemcare aims to remedy whatever ails your computer by not only cleaning up junk files, malware, and invalid registry entries, but by giving your computer a boost to optimize your PC experience.

Advanced Systemcare's interface is broken down into four maintenance categories so as to not overwhelm you: Quick Care, Deep Care, Toolbox, and Turbo Boost. We started with Quick Care and with the Quick Malware Removal feature. We clicked Scan and the program quickly went to work and came back with no issues. (In all fairness, we regularly run full PC scans using our own security software, so we didn't expect the program to find anything here.) Next up to bat was the Registry Fix, which came back with a whopping 597 problems. We found this a little fishy since we had just tested a very reputable registry cleaner that had found and fixed all of our registry issues. Still, we went through the process of checking and unchecking which files we wanted the program to fix. Once we clicked the Repair Now option, the program went to work and the problem registry entries were remedied in a matter of seconds. The Deep Care feature takes it all a step further by offering deeper scans, as well as a Registry Defrag option, which we successfully used to tidy up our registry. We were a little miffed that the program didn't ask us if we wanted to back up our registry before making any changes. However, we'll give it a slight pass because the program does include a Rescue feature that lets you undo any registry changes, and offers the ability to create a restore point, which we recommend you do before you touch your registry. Our final stop on the tour was the Turbo Boost feature. From there, we selected Work Mode, which let us manually disable unnecessary services and background applications. We were skeptical of it actually doing anything to speed up our computer, but we have to admit that we did notice a slight difference in our computer's speed, and for the better. The program does include an online help guide, though we don't think you'll need it for handling basic cleaning tasks.

Pay close attention while installing Advanced Systemcare because it'll install an IObit toolbar if you don't decline. The program also leaves a folder behind after uninstallation. Still, we recommend it as a worthwhile program for keeping your system running on all cylinders.

    "Seems to work quite well"

    April 5, 2013  |   By Raidmeuk_PC_Repairs

    Version: Advanced SystemCare 6.1.9.220

    Pros

Cleans the machine well and does speed it up to an extent.

    Cons

The ads and be annoying unless you upgrade.

    Summary

Worth a look if your machine is running slow. Yes some people say it can cause problems but all software can cause problems esp software that cleans and speeds up your machine.

"Free Version shut down my wifi drivers"

    April 3, 2013  |   By johnnytiki

    Version: Advanced SystemCare 6.1.9.220

    Pros

None, As soon as you realize that this program is nothing more than a virus, you'll try to uninstall it. Guess what? You can't!

    Cons

It looks pretty, and it looks official, BUT it finds things to remove that are essential to the operation of your computer. It made registry changes that I did not authorize....my PC has never worked right since I made the mistake of downloading this.

    Summary

    DON'T DO IT!

    "Do not buy this product."

    March 30, 2013  |   By paulysmith93

    Version: Advanced SystemCare 6.1.9.220

    Pros

Simple, colourful interface. That's the only reason it doesn't get minimum stars.

    Cons

Everything else. It didn't work, and damaged my laptop.

    Summary

This product seems very dodgy to me indeed. I am very suspicious of the registry 'fixing' tool in this product. I too had a suspiciously high number of registry errors. I found that by simply starting and re-starting the program I magically had more errors to deal with.

The turbo function does change settings for a quick swap to optimum performance, but these can be easily set manually, so this is hardly a major positive.

I also found that after a little while using this program my computer slowed down dramatically. In fact, I am absolutely convinced that my registry was damaged. I also had trouble with my Wi-Fi drivers, which disappeared after uninstalling the product.

I do not appreciate the amount of bloatware added on to this product either. The installation process has clearly been engineered to catch people out.

As a side note, I am also very suspicious of some of the reviews on this site (not least the editor's review). I saw a program on TV (bad source - at least it was the BBC) which featured an investigation into scam reviewers. It revealed that people are paid money (actually advertised on job sites) to write positive reviews for products, holidays etc. In a lot of cases, they even give themselves bogus awards. Anyway, some of these reviewers are a little bit...defensive for my liking, so I'd urge you to be careful. Needless to say, I would not put it past this company.

In sum, DO NOT download this product. There is no easy way to get a much faster computer, short of buying one. There are plenty of legitimate ways you can gain minor performance advantages (turning of services, graphics etc.) but for a really noticeable difference you need a faster processor, more RAM, or a faster operating system. Do not buy, or even freely download, this snake oil product.

P.S. I'm using an ASUS 1225B with Dual-Core 1GHZ Processor, 4gb RAM and a RADEON HD 6290 graphics card. My system runs smoothly, and can handle HD video. It would be a fair bit less smooth had I not tweaked it a little. For people have limited technical knowledge, who are using Windows 7, check this stuff out.

Windows button + R (Run) then type in "msconfig". Hit enter. Check out your startup programs and services, Google the ones you aren't sure about. Disable the things you KNOW you don't need.

Right-click Computer then click Properties. Then on the left you should see "Advanced system settings" then look in the "Performance" box in the "Advanced" tab. Click "Settings..." Then "Adjust for best performance".

Also Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off. Again, Google what you're planning on turning off.

You may also have a conflict in your security systems, so I suggest you make sure you only have one firewall/antivirus etc.

And to show that I'm completely impartial, so far IObit's "SmartDefrag" is actually pretty decent too. Watch out during installation though. They may have made one good product, but they're still slippery. Either way, SmartDefrag will actually help, particularly with it's Boot Time Defrag option.

I hope at least some of this has helped. At the very least, it should show you how keen I am that you don't download this product, and try other things to help your system run smoothly.

P.P.S Don't touch your registry, it's 'can of worms', as they say.

    "Overall great software"

    March 29, 2013  |   By Dionsia

    Version: Advanced SystemCare 6.1.9.220

    Pros

If you don't mind a few ads the free version is great at cleaning up your computer. Many different utilities are provided.

    Cons

Ads may be bothersome for some, but it's free!

    Summary

I recommend you at least try it out. If you suspect your computer has viruses, run an antivirus scan first because it didn't detect those.

"Dishonest company, NEVER provide credit details or buy."

    March 22, 2013  |   By _Ka_Ren_

    Version: Advanced SystemCare 6.1.9.220

    Pros

    Provide free version

    Cons

BAD ETHICS, once they get your credit info, best to replace your credit card else risking them charging you after few years of you opting out of their auto-buy system.

100% Money Back Guarantee within 60 days of purchase with no questions asked is faked.

Base on what i read on
    http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/avangate-iobit-charge-after-i-have-opt-out-of-auto-renew-2-years-ago-c661680.html
some customers did get back their refund but many still didn't.

Slows your pc after some time of use.

    Summary

Brought ASC version 3 in 2010 and log in my account to untick auto-buy on same day i download the paid version. Ever had a bad experience another software when i just had my first pc thus even till now i have a habit of reading n untick any auto-buy for all my purchase. 2011 release ASC version 4 i am not made to pay for that version. I have uninstall ASC version 3 after some time of using as it slow my pc down and i've bad reviews from google regarding slowing down our pc and adding spyware in their software. In 2012 this company charge me for ASC version 5 and 19/1/2013 they charge me for ASC version 6. The email is sent by Avangate on behalf of iObit informing me they have deduct USD$19.95 from my bank for ASC version 6 and provides me a link for download and key to unlock the software. I email the company on 7/3/13 to request for a refund but they avoid my questions and complaints on email and proceed with promoting their software and instructions on how to download it, i get really pissed after some time so become aggressive in my email, finally on 20/3/13 i get a reply informing their company policy only provide refunds within 30days of purchase. Their main site state clearly 60days money back with no questions asked.
    http://www.iobit.com/advanced-systemcare-antivirus.php

Basically they have delay my email request for refund till 60days pass and then told me their money back is for 30days period thus i am not allowed for refund.

Most importantly is their ethics! I've to replace my credit card as despite exiting from their auto buy system in 2010 and never ever visit their site again i am put back into their auto buy system in 2012. They claim i've opt for auto-buy at the point when i buy their software like other customers, but was not able to explain if so why i am NOT made to buy ASC version 4 in 2011.
