Advanced SystemCare Free 5 uses its powerful arsenal of optimization tools to keep your PC feeling fresh and clean. It also includes a couple of features that could help boost performance for either gaming or work purposes--your choice.

Advanced SystemCare's Quick Care option includes the ability to clean your registry, perform a rudimentary malware scan, fix and remove broken shortcuts, delete junk files, and erase browsing tracks. It works in a flash, requires almost no user input, and to make things even easier, can be configured to run on system startup.

The Deep Care option, on the other hand, takes system care to another level. It performs all of the Quick Care items to a much deeper degree, plus it adds several other scans and fixes to its checklist, including disk defragmenting, a Windows vulnerability fix, and a system optimization with several presets. Understandably, this kind of deep digging can sometimes make a user nervous. Fortunately, the program's log records all of its activities, letting you see how each affects your computer.

Scan times for the Quick Care and Deep Care options differ significantly, yet, both processes still seem blazingly fast. For instance, we completed a Deep Care scan in approximately 15 minutes, which is an impressively short time for a system-invasive program like this.

Brand-new to version 5 is the Active Boost function, which runs in the background and automatically improves PC performance by managing your system resources. We recommend enabling it, as it even keeps a log of all the active processes that it manages to speed up. Also important, Version 5 connects to the cloud in order to keep its database up to date.

As for Advanced SystemCare's user interface, we were impressed, to say the least. The main dashboard is superclean, with nifty icons and intuitive navigation. Plus, there's an unimposing smiley face always at the bottom of the screen, indicating your PC's overall health. If you click the Status button next to the smiley, you can also get more detailed info from the system performance monitor.

One part of the program we recommend new users approach with extreme caution is the Turbo Boost, which can be set to optimize for either gaming or work purposes. It sounds fun, but you must first configure the tool by telling it which core system services to disable in order to accelerate your computer's performance. Since the Turbo Boost section doesn't spell out how disabling these services might affect your computer, we highly recommend doing your research before exploring. To its credit, though, Advanced SystemCare can create rescue points, so it's not hard to undo changes if you end up making any mistakes.

One small problem we found was that some of the program's options open in new windows, while others open in the same window. Those in the same window have convenient back-navigation buttons in the upper left; those in new windows are sometimes overlaid directly on top of the previous window and make it hard to see how to return to the previous screen. Also, we were a bit turned off by the cleverly disguised ad for Roboform Password Manager during installation. It looks a bit like a terms-of-service sheet, so be sure to read carefully before your instincts kick in and you automatically click Accept.

Overall, we love Advanced SystemCare's toolset, performance, and convenience. Sure, we wish the program were more explicit about how it changes your computer, but we still think it's an awesome all-in-one system utility, and we highly recommend downloading it.

"Terrible Product"

November 18, 2011  |  By DBone20

 |  Version: Advanced SystemCare Free 5.0

Pros

Great...........If you are looking for a reason to do a fresh install.

Cons

I ran this piece of crud program on my Windows 7 x64 Home Premium machine with the default settings. I simply clicked the one step destroy, I mean clean button, and that was the last of my OS. The machine worked OK until I shut down, but it would not reboot. I got error message after error message on boot, and I could not even boot into safe mode.

This machine had a fresh install from my system image, and it had never seen a single registry cleaner before this "awesome" IObit program. While I don't know for sure, I am betting that IObit killed a very important reg key or 2, or 100.

No big deal to me, as I did a clean install, then re-imaged to an image I saved last week.................If you are reading this right now and are thinking about trying this crapware.....DON'T. You may get lucky for a while, but eventually it will cause you nothing but heartache. Stay away from any and all registry cleaners, but treat this crapware as a poisonous snake.

Summary

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

"beware false grades"

November 17, 2011  |  By ForThaWin

 |  Version: Advanced SystemCare Free 5.0

Pros

works good for a free utility package

Cons

it does however give a false grade of C or lower if you do not use it often enough. i feel this is just so it can check your computer and send information out.

i used it on a completely new self build with WIN7 Home premium 64bit and it gave me a C after 4 days. this machine was never on internet and had no other programes installed during this testing.

after i used the 'recommended action' quick repair it found no real problems imo but gave me an A after i allowed it to 'clean my system up'.

6 days later it gave me a D and it was still the only programe on the machine other tha WIN7. i immediatly uninstalled. also wiped HD and reinstalled Win7 as who knows what else this programe may have put in my machine.

Summary

if you dont mind false readings and loss of some periphials use it. otherwise there are other less invasive and more truthful utilities out there.

Fully loaded features for a free app.

Cons

Crashed my system . . . again. Don't try to explore the other features (ex. repair registry) since it might do harm than good.

Summary

I went back to the old, reliable Ccleaner or better yet Glary Utilities. Proven safe and effective.

""BE CAREFUL" with version 5"

November 16, 2011  |  By HawaiianEye

 |  Version: Advanced SystemCare Free 5.0

Pros

This version will really clean out your registry

Cons

Yes, I say this as a "Con" as well
This version will really clean out your registry
Even registry entries that you need to run the Window OS
This is not a newbies piece of software anymore.

Summary

I upgraded from version 4.
When I opened the program it recommended that I run a deep clean which I have done before in version 4. The prompt at the bottom of the main window said my system performance was "Poor". So I ran the full (deep) scan. When I clicked on the details link it listed a massive amount of files and the notes said to double check to make sure that anything that said "High", you should be extra sure that you want to delete those and you should uncheck those files prior to letting ASC delete those entries. I was panicked to see all of the entries that were listed that are necessary to run Windows. I was also pleasantly surprised to see entries that Revo Uninstaller did not remove when I removed unwanted software. So you better be very careful. But this did a really good job at finding registry entries that others have missed.
BTW, My system is running faster.
But I can't stress enough to be careful!
or
You will be reloading your entire OS
