"SCAM!! Don't call the 1-888 #. They will blatantly lie!"
Version: Advanced Disk Recovery 1.2
Pros
1.) They offer a totally free "demo" version of Advanced Disk Recovery (ADR) for you to download and to see if it meets your needs without providing any information (e.g., credit card, email address, etc). You can download up to 5 files with this version to verify the condition of the files.
2.) ADR is one of few software that has an option to save files in their original respective folders and subfolders (most other data recovery software reorganize their findings by file type, e.g., all .jpgs are in one huge folder, all .docs are in another). There is also an option to save files by file type if you prefer.
3.) The UI is relatively clean and easy to use. It also has advanced options, e.g., search only for deleted files
4.) They have 24/7 toll-free number, which would be great if they didn't use it to try to scam you.Cons
1.) I couldn't see ANY FILES in scan results, ONLY folders/subfolers, although found file types were listed throughout the scan. I selected 5 folders to download. They downloaded as blank folders, except one .exe file in a folder
2.) I called the 1-888# to ask if this was a bug. The Indian guy anxiously asked me 5 times if he could remotely login to my computer. I replied that he shouldn't have to remote in to assess the problem. He then said he couldn't help but advised me to call back in the morning. So I called back and the next Indian guy insisted on remoting in. He immediately went to "event viewer"--> "custom views"--> "admin events", which listed several "warning" and "error" events and exclaimed "OH YOU HAVE SO MANY VIRUSES!" I called his BS b/c I'm an engineer and knew that these "events" WERE NOT VIRUSES. Event descriptions proved that most were from ADR (NOTE I tried 4 other data recovery sw before this and NONE made these "events") and the rest were low HD space warnings.Summary
I tried 4 other data recovery demos before this one because I was hoping to find one with an option to save my files in their original folders/subfolders. My computer had deleted all the files on my external harddrive(300gb) AND reformatted the drive to NTFS when I allowed it to save recovery media(<1gb) onto the drive. So at 12am on 4/21/12 I downloaded the demo ADR. The scan supposedly found many deleted files, but scan results wouldn't show ANY FILES, only folders and subfolders. When I called the toll free # for the second time, I can't believe I let the Indian guy remote into my laptop in hindsight. The Indian guy just pretended that I had viruses on my computer (he NEVER asked me how my problem came about). I ran out of room above, but the 2nd Indian guy was very persistent and when I called his bluff he tried to tell me to pay for his service so that he could "fix my problem". I hung up on him after yelling at him for his shameless and seedy practices. Too bad we can't shut them out of America. I hope this review will help someone stay safe and away from doing business with this company.
SCAM!! SCAM!!! SCAM!! Don't call the toll-free number for help. If you don't know anything about computers they will lie and try to cheat you by telling you that you have a virus that you do not really have! They will try to make you feel helpless so that you will pay them to fix the problem. -
"Good Deep Recovery"
Version: Advanced Disk Recovery 1.2
Pros
This program restored 119,xxx files from a disk damaged by vcom Partition Commander 10 in resizing operation that failed to complete. A professional reviewer noted ADR 1.2 was able to restore more files than any other SW in their trials.
Cons
After one of the (qresolve (paid ADR techs)) used a previously installed copy of Easeus Partition Master pro 6.5.1 to re-initialize/quick format the disk ADR (see summary).
Summary
UI is basic; deep scans may run many hours, but this SW can do powerful deep scans and restorations. (Trial version file restore is limited to 5 files.) ADR 1.2 (paid version 39.95 ) was able to scan & recover the many files on a disk damage several yrs ago by a V-com Partition Commander 10 resizing operation that stalled. Most recovered files are usable.
