Why is it so difficult to have the same Windows performance? At least 3 times slower. -

...a Macromedia product with screwed up permissions. Be sure to repair them. Other than that, all seems well. -

Everything worked just fine. Downloading and installing took all of a minute or so. It works just fine with Firefox 1.0pr.

"Macromedia has does it again!"
Version: Adobe Shockwave Player 10.0.1.4
Summary

1) half of their software doesn't run properly on case-sensitive file systems like HFSX
2) all of their software uses the even more retarded VISE installers instead of either being drag&drop or using Apple's own standard installer. The VISE installers f*ck up all the time, e.g. by trying to search all volumes (gee, I happen to have mounted a 2TB XServe RAID that's on the other side of the globe through a DSL link!) and doing other wonky useless stuff such as forcing a user to quit *ALL* apps (as if Terminal.app had anything to do with Shockwave plug-ins!). These sort of installers are DISRUPTIVE to workflow and despicable.
Look, it's simple: a Browser plug-in belongs into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
Drag&drop does fine, simply replacing the old version that's there. That's how it's supposed to work.
But no, instead we get an installer that I can't convince to cooperate. Some people complain about the new version being slower than the old one, and Macromedia doesn't even tell us what's new about this version, i.e. why we should bother upgrading (not that it would work anyway...)
Can you say lack of quality control? Either they need to start or to stop outsourcing their work. In either case it's time that they fire half their team, get new, competent people, and maybe pay them twice as much money, but at least that would then be money well spent, and you'd not have employees waste time on creating installer apps that don't work, instead you could get a "lowly" tech writer to explain how to drag a friggin file into a folder, remember, it was /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ not that hard, is it?
Nevermind that the entire Flash/Shockwave stuff is proprietary crap that doesn't work on half the browsers out there e.g. it works really "well" on your Palm's browser, or any other standard compliant web browser that's not running on one of the two big platforms and conforming to a couple of arbitrary plug-in specifications.
Macromedia, two words: Keep it! -

"doesn't work"

When I run the installer, it claims that I need admin or better privileges to proceed. The thing is: I HAVE admin privs and if in doubt, a well-behaved app would ask for a password instead of simply quitting. -

How do I get the my old version back? This one is way too slow! Can anyone tell me how to go back to the previous version? -
"try this"

Even easier is to start the installer, and change the Easy Install to Uninstall in the drop-down menu, run it, then do the Easy Install. The uninstaller showed 25 items to be removed, who know where else some of that stuff may be lurking. Point is, use the built-in uninstaller to remove ALL old remnants of Shockwave.
